Predictive energy management with engine switching control for hybrid electric vehicle via ADMM

Fei Ju et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the energy management problem of a power-split hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) with planetary gear sets. A mixed-integer global optimal control problem is formulated, and convex modeling is presented to reformulate the problem as a two-step program. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm is employed to optimize the engine switching and battery power decisions. Simulation results show significant fuel savings and computational efficiency compared to heuristic and dynamic programming methods. An ADMM-MPC method is also developed for real-time control with promising results.

A real time multi-objective optimization Guided-MPC strategy for power-split hybrid electric bus based on velocity prediction

Dongpo Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a Real time Multi-objective optimization Guided-MPC strategy (RMGMPC) for efficiency-oriented power-split hybrid electric buses (PSHEB). The strategy includes a vehicle speed prediction controller, a SOC reference generator, and the novel RMGMPC based on the direct multiple shooting method and sequential quadratic programming algorithm. The proposed RMGMPC achieves high fuel economy, improved shifting times, and reduced calculation time compared to MPC-DP. The results are verified through HIL testing.

Reducing the Fuel Consumption of an Hybrid Electric Vehicle With the Use of Model Predictive Control-Case Study

Wawrzyniec Golebiewski et al.

Summary: The article discusses the operational aspects of energy management strategy (EMS) - model predictive control (MPC) and presents a mathematical model for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) to demonstrate the synergy of working machines. The comparison of results between factory control and MPC with different linear quadratic tracking (LQT) curves shows that applying thirteen reference LQT trajectories can result in a 4% reduction in fuel consumption for the HEV.

On Pre-Emptive In-Wheel Motor Control for Reducing the Longitudinal Acceleration Oscillations Caused by Road Irregularities

Victor Vidal et al.

Summary: Road irregularities can cause both vertical and longitudinal vibrations in a vehicle, impacting ride comfort. While vertical dynamics have been extensively studied, longitudinal dynamics on uneven roads have received less attention. The relatively slow response of internal combustion engines limits their ability to compensate for road irregularities. However, by utilizing in-wheel electric powertrains and pre-emptive control based on road profile information, potential solutions for effective compensation can be explored. This paper introduces a proof-of-concept nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) implementation based on road preview, and evaluates its performance using a simulation model of an all-wheel drive electric vehicle. The results show significant improvements in ride comfort, as compared to benchmarking feedback controllers.
