A Synthetic Microbial Community of Plant Core Microbiome Can Be a Potential Biocontrol Tool

Finding optimal microorganisms to increase crop productivity and sustainability under drought - a structured reflection

Summary: Considering the increasing frequency and duration of drought events caused by climate change, enhancing plant drought tolerance is a priority. The search for plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) that can improve plant drought tolerance has been ongoing for a long time, but the results have been inconsistent. In this study, we summarize the mechanisms of PGPR that enhance plant drought tolerance, identify the issues in current PGPR isolation and selection methods, and discuss the key points for defining new strategies to obtain optimal PGPR for improving plant drought tolerance. Drought and host genotype affect rhizo-communities, and host-mediated selection strategies can be used to obtain a drought-adapted rhizomicrobiome that can serve as a source for PGPR isolation. Alternatively, an integrated omics-level analysis can enhance our understanding of the mechanisms of rhizomicrobiome construction, allowing for the design of a targeted approach focused on key plant growth-promoting traits. New strategies for building PGPR consortia to enhance plant drought tolerance are also suggested.

The rhizosphere Microbiome of Malus sieversii (Ldb.) Roem. in the geographic and environmental gradients of China's Xinjiang

Summary: The rhizosphere bacterial and eukaryotic communities of Malus sieversii (Ldb.) Roem. in eight regions of the Yili River were analyzed using high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that bacterial diversity and composition were significantly lower in regions A, E, and F compared to other regions, while eukaryotic communities had a relatively similar composition in all regions. Geographical and climatic distance were found to be key factors influencing the composition and diversity of wild apple rhizosphere microbial communities. This study provides guidance for the management and ecological construction of wild apple forests in China.

The composition of bacteria and fungi in different succession stages was found to be similar, with pH possibly playing a key role in driving this similarity.
