The effects of transcranial electrical stimulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex on tactile spatial discrimination performance

Kei Saito et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether tRNS and anodal tPCS over the left DLPFC could improve tactile perceptual discrimination performance of the right index finger in healthy neurological individuals. The results showed that tRNS on the left DLPFC tended to enhance tactile perceptual discrimination performance, while anodal tPCS did not have an effect.

Gamma-transcranial alternating current stimulation on the cerebellum and supplementary motor area improves bimanual motor skill

Shota Miyaguchi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) on the cerebellum and SMA on bimanual movements. The results showed that simultaneous stimulation of the cerebellum and SMA, as well as stimulation of the cerebellum alone, significantly improved bimanual movement performance. These findings have implications for the development of stimulation methods for improving bimanual motor skills.

The hidden brain-state dynamics of tACS aftereffects

Florian H. Kasten et al.

Summary: This study utilized Hidden Markov Models (HMM) to decompose magnetoencephalography data into spontaneous, transient brain-states with distinct characteristics. The results showed that only one out of four brain-states displayed an effect of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES), suggesting that the susceptibility to tES varies across different brain-states.

Targeting the frontoparietal network using bifocal transcranial alternating current stimulation during a motor sequence learning task in healthy older adults

L. R. Draaisma et al.

Summary: This study aims to provide causal evidence for the involvement of working memory processes and the underlying frontal-parietal network (FPN) in the successful performance of a motor sequence learning task by using theta transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) targeting the FPN.

Conducting double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)

Flavio Frohlich et al.

Summary: The article discusses the concept of pathological changes in brain network oscillations and the potential therapeutic application of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) for CNS illnesses. It focuses on the conceptual foundations of double-blind clinical trials, practical aspects of successful trial execution, and proposes a roadmap for moving towards convincing efficacy studies of tACS.
