Cooperative Dilemmas with Binary Actions and Multiple Players

Jorge Pena et al.

Summary: The prisoner's dilemma, the snowdrift game, and the stag hunt are considered as prototypical examples of cooperative dilemmas in various fields. However, there is little consensus on the precise mathematical meaning of cooperation and cooperative dilemma for these games, especially when more than two players are involved. This study proposes definitions for these terms and explores their evolutionary consequences on the equilibrium structure of cooperative dilemmas in relation to social optimality.

Do Arabian babblers play mixed strategies in a volunteer's dilemma?

Summary: Arabian babblers, when hearing an alarm call indicating a raptor approach, must decide whether to flee or signal to the raptor; the study found that their choices were not based on independent mixed strategies.
