Analysis of tribological behavior of dual-textured Ti-6Al-4 V alloy surfaces fabricated using a tool-mimic approach

Tanmay Tiwari et al.

Summary: The present study focuses on analyzing the tribological performance of dual-textured Ti-6Al-4 V surfaces. The results showed that both the circular textured surface (CTS) and the cross-hatch textured surface (CHTS) had lower coefficients of friction (COF) compared to the untextured surface (UTS) under different loads. Additionally, the presence of the dual textures resulted in a decrease in the contact angle of the Phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution, indicating a hydrophilic nature. Microstructural analysis confirmed the alterations in the grain structure of the material, indicating the successful creation of functional surfaces using the tool-mimic approach.

Effect of laser-induced texture on lubrication retention and tribological properties of 40Cr alloy surfaces

Jian Ma et al.

Summary: Continuous and proper oil lubrication between friction pairs can reduce wear and increase the service life of mechanical components. The synergistic effects of oil wettability and spreadability on lubrication durability and tribological properties were investigated. The capillary action of textured structures promotes oil spreadability and reduces the relaxation time of the contact angle, while laser-induced oxidation and hydroxylation affect the final contact angle. However, excessive absorption behavior of textures limits oil wettability and spreadability. In addition, capillary action and hydroxylation provide a textured surface with excellent oil spreadability and a relatively high contact angle, which are critical for maintaining surface lubrication and improving tribological properties.

Control of the hydrophobicity of rare earth oxide coatings deposited by solution precursor plasma spray by hydrocarbon adsorption

Pengyun Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the wetting behavior and surface composition of Yb2O3 and Al2O3 coatings under different post-deposition treatments, revealing that different treatments result in different wetting behaviors for Yb2O3 coatings, correlated with the content of hydrocarbon on the surface. Yb2O3 coatings can transition between superhydrophobicity and superhydrophilicity based on the post-deposition treatment, while Al2O3 coatings exhibit lower wetting behavior.
