Summary: This study found that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the mental health of expectant mothers in the UK, with increased prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress related to the psychological impact of COVID-19. Women who perceived a higher psychological impact from COVID-19 were more likely to experience depressive and anxiety symptoms. High levels of depressive symptoms were associated with reduced attachment to the unborn baby. Women who appraised the impact of COVID-19 to be more negative showed higher levels of anxiety, while higher social support acted as a protective factor and was associated with lower anxiety.
