Co-strengthening of dislocations and precipitates in alumina-forming austenitic steel with cold rolling followed by aging

Qiuzhi Gao et al.

Summary: The microstructural evolutions of AFA steel after cold-rolled reductions and subsequent aging at 700 degrees C were studied. It was found that increased dislocations from cold rolling enhanced the volume fraction and refined the particle size of precipitates, but also accelerated the coarsening rate. Cold-rolled AFA steel aged for 2 hours exhibited excellent mechanical properties due to the synergistic strengthening of dislocations and precipitates.

Reason for negative effect of Nb addition on oxidation resistance of alumina-forming austenitic stainless steel at 1323 K

Lin Shen et al.

Summary: The negative effect of Nb addition on oxidation resistance in alumina-forming austenitic stainless steels at high temperature is attributed to the suppressed outward diffusion of Al atoms due to the formation of Fe2Nb phase. Pre-aging at 1223 K can enhance the oxidation resistance of Nb-containing Fe-25Ni-10Cr-4.5Al steel by pre-precipitating the B2-NiAl phase.

The influence of Y and Nb addition on the corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-Al-Ni model alloys exposed to oxygen-containing molten Pb

Hao Shi et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of four different alumina-forming austenitic model alloys in oxygen containing molten Pb at 600 and 650 degrees C has been investigated. One composition with minor additions of Y and Nb and low Ni concentration shows corrosion resistance at 650 degrees C, where Y and Nb have a significant positive influence on the corrosion resistance and phase composition of the alloys.

Mo-rich Laves phase in a 9.5Cr-1.5MoCoVNbNB heat-resistant steel during long-term aging at 620 °C

Hui-fang Yin et al.

Summary: The investigation of Mo-rich Laves phase precipitation and evolution in 9.5Cr-1.5MoCoVNbNB steel during thermal aging at 620 degrees C revealed a continuous increase in the number, size, and area fraction of the phase with aging time. The nucleation of Mo-rich Laves phase was found to be associated with the segregation of P and Si atoms at the M23C6 carbides/martensite interfaces. Johnson-Mehl-Avrami and Ostwald ripening equations showed the trends in nucleation rate and growth mechanism of the Mo-rich Laves phase during aging.

Summary: The corrosion characteristics and mechanisms of Ni-Fe-Cr and Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-Cu corrosion-resistant alloys in supercritical water were discussed. Inconel 625 and Hastelloy C-276 showed good corrosion resistance in various testing environments. The outer oxide layer formation and potential causes of its looseness and discontinuity were also addressed. This information can guide material selection, design, and optimization of key equipment in supercritical water technologies.

Oxidation behavior of Ni-25Cr-10Fe-3Si-χNb alloys at 1000 °C in ambient air: Role of Laves phase

Guodong Jia et al.

Summary: The oxidation behavior of Ni-25Cr-10Fe-3Si-chi Nb alloys at 1000 degrees C in ambient air follows a parabolic law, with the parabolic rate constant increasing with Nb content due to the formation of the Laves phase. During oxidation, Nb atoms are released from the Laves phase lattice and react with oxygen to form Nb2O5. Oxygen can diffuse into the alloy and combine with the Si in the Laves phase to form internal oxidation, with the outer layer of oxide scales being Cr2O3 and Nb2O5, and the inner layer being SiO2.

The formation mechanism, growth, and effect on the mechanical properties of precipitate free zones in the alumina-forming austenitic stainless steel Fe-20Cr-30Ni-2Nb-5Al during creep

Andrew Peterson et al.

Summary: The mechanisms of formation and growth of L12 precipitate-free zones in Fe-20Cr-30Ni-2Nb-5Al austenitic stainless steel during creep were studied. PFZs are formed after the dissolution of L12 precipitates due to depletion of nickel and aluminum, and little growth occurs until grain boundaries are covered by Laves phase and B2 precipitates leading to the depletion of surrounding elements. The presence of micro-cracks in PFZs suggests their weakness in the microstructure and their role as initiation points for fracture.

The role of new energy in carbon neutral

Zou Caineng et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide is an important component in the global carbon cycle, with dual properties of converting organic matter in ecosystems and contributing to the greenhouse effect. Achieving carbon neutrality is a consensus, but faces challenges in politics, resources, technology, market, and energy structures. Carbon replacement, emission reduction, sequestration, and cycling are key approaches, with carbon replacement as a crucial aspect. New energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, and hydrogen power play a major role in achieving low carbon emissions, with green hydrogen serving as a reserve force. Artificial carbon conversion technology acts as a bridge between new and fossil energy sources to reduce emissions effectively. China is predicted to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions of 110x10(8) t in 2030, but could potentially decrease to 22x10(8) t, 33x10(8) t, and 44x10(8) t by 2060 under various scenarios. To achieve carbon neutrality, implementing a new energy structure and promoting energy independence strategy are essential in China.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Ni-Fe-Cr-Al wrought alumina forming superalloy heat-treated at 600-1100 °C

Adelajda Polkowska et al.

Summary: This study systematically examined the effect of heat-treatment temperature on the structural evolution and mechanical response of Haynes (R) HR-224 (R) alloy, revealing a significant increase in room temperature tensile strength and a reduction of ductility under 600-800 degrees C/2 h heat treatment conditions. Discontinuous precipitation (DP) of (gamma + gamma')/M23C6 was identified as the main structural process affecting the observed mechanical behavior of the material.
