One-step construction of mesoporous cyano and sulfur co-modified carbon nitride for photocatalytic valorization of lignin to functionalized aromatics

Conghao Ku et al.

Summary: In this study, mesoporous cyano and sulfur co-modified carbon nitride (MCSCN) was successfully synthesized for the first time. The mesoporous structure reduced the mass transfer resistance and the modified cyano groups and sulfur atoms improved the photocatalytic valorization of waste lignin. WCOS lignin could be efficiently transformed to functionalized aromatics with MCSCN, achieving a much higher yield compared to traditional g-C3N4 photocatalyst.

Removal of heavy metals from polluted water using magnetic adsorbent based on κ-carrageenan and N-doped carbon dots

Zeinab Rahmani et al.

Summary: A novel magnetic adsorbent with high stability and fast recovery properties was prepared for the removal of heavy metal ions from water. The modified magnetic kappa-carrageenan (MMCG) showed high adsorption capacity and fast adsorption rate for various metal ions. The MMCG also exhibited good reusability with minimal loss of activity after multiple adsorption-desorption cycles. The maximum removal efficiency of metal ions from real wastewater was approximately 88-98%.
