Utilizing Noncovalent Conformational Locks to Create Through- Space Charge Transport

Yunchuan Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the creation of through-space channels by substituting the H atom of the central benzene in a starting molecule with F. The single-molecule conductance investigation showed an increased molecular conductance with more F substituents. Theoretical analysis revealed that noncovalent conformational locks (NCLs) played a major role in enhancing electron transport rates and creating additional through-space channels.

Mechanical single-molecule potentiometers with large switching factors from ortho-pentaphenylene foldamers

Jinshi Li et al.

Summary: Single-molecule potentiometers based on ortho-pentaphenylene derivatives exhibit a controllable conductance modulation through multiple folded conformers, achieving a significantly higher switching factor than previously reported values. The charge transport mechanism for these folded molecules is rationalized as a multichannel conductance governed by through-space and through-bond conducting pathways, shedding light on exploring robust single-molecule potentiometers based on helical structures.

Reversible Switching between Destructive and Constructive Quantum Interference Using Atomically Precise Chemical Gating of Single-Molecule Junctions

Chun Tang et al.

Summary: This study introduces an atomically precise gating strategy to manipulate the quantum interference patterns at the single-molecule scale, achieving a complete switching from destructive to constructive QI modes and significant conductance modulation at room temperature. The chemical gating effect exerted locally on the pyridine nitrogen through selective interaction with cationic reagents demonstrates unique capabilities in modulating QI and offers potential for developing novel electronic devices.

Electrostatic gating of single-molecule junctions based on the STM-BJ technique

Ping Zhou et al.

Summary: An electrostatic gating method was used to tune the conductance of single-molecule junctions, showing a variation in conductance with different gating voltages. The study demonstrated that the energy alignment of the molecular junction could be changed by altering the applied gating voltage, impacting the charge transport properties. This work provides a simple method for exploring the charge transport properties at the single-molecule scale.
