Summary: Lung cancer is a leading cause of avoidable deaths, and early detection through a lung cancer screening program using low-dose computed tomography is crucial. However, the healthcare system's heavy workload, shortage of specialists, and high costs necessitate new solutions, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to support hospitals. This paper presents promising results and discusses the need for AI in medicine, particularly in the field of lung cancer, to potentially save lives. Recent developments in lung cancer screening have significant implications for the European community and beyond, and AI can support the screening process for the benefit of patients, healthcare professionals, and hospital staff.

Summary: In this study, an improved hybrid neural network was developed by merging MobileNetV2 and UNet architectures for semantic segmentation of malignant lung tumors from CT images. Transfer learning was used, where the pre-trained MobileNetV2 served as an encoder for feature extraction in a conventional UNet model. Skip connections with Relu activation function were established to connect the encoder and decoder layers, enabling concatenation of feature maps with different resolutions. The network was trained and fine-tuned using the training dataset from the MSD 2018 Challenge. Testing on a subset of the MSD dataset resulted in a dice score of 0.8793, recall of 0.8602, and precision of 0.93. The technique outperforms current available networks with multiple training and testing phases.

Summary: This study suggests that serum exosomal miR-1246 has significant treatment significance in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The level of serum exosomal miR-1246 is considerably higher in NSCLC patients and is significantly associated with distant metastases and TNM stages. After treatment, the level of serum exosomal miR-1246 decreases but increases in cases of recurrence. Severe levels of exosomal miR-1246 serum are associated with lower overall or disease-free survival. Therefore, serum exosomal miR-1246 may serve as a useful prognosis biomarker for NSCLC.

Summary: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, with most patients still being diagnosed at an advanced stage despite screening efforts for high-risk populations. In the past decade, management of lung cancer has significantly progressed towards personalized treatments, with molecular biomarkers playing a crucial role in prognosis and predicting therapy response. Non-small cell lung cancer, being the most common type, is the primary focus for discussion on promising new biomarkers in clinical management.
