Construction and evaluation of in-house methylation-sensitive SNaPshot system and three classification prediction models for identifying the tissue origin of body fluid

Yating Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, eight novel body fluid-specific DNA methylation markers were used to construct a multiplex single base extension reaction (SNaPshot) system for identifying five common body fluids. The in-house system showed good species specificity, sensitivity, and ability to identify mixed biological samples. Additionally, prediction models based on machine learning algorithms were constructed and achieved high accuracy in identifying the tissue origin of body fluids.

Teija Ojala et al.

Summary: Metatranscriptomics refers to the analysis of microbial transcriptome of a sample, and its analysis of human-associated microbial communities has helped us understand the relationship between microbiotas and diseases. This article reviews the principles and methods of metatranscriptomics-based analysis of human-associated microbial samples, and discusses the recent progress and potential changes in the characterization of human microbiotas. The insights gained from metatranscriptomics not only expand our knowledge of human health, but also have important implications for antimicrobial drug use and disease management.

When Bacteria and Viruses Collide: A Tale of Chlamydia trachomatis and Sexually Transmitted Viruses

Ehsan Ghasemian et al.

Summary: The global incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remains high, with co-infections of multiple pathogens being prevalent. Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most reported bacterial STI worldwide, co-infecting with viral and other bacterial STIs. This review provides an overview of the epidemiology of these co-infections and specifically focuses on the underlying mechanisms by which CT influences the transmission and infection dynamics of HIV and HSV. It also explores the complex relationship between CT and HPV infection.
