A MADS-box gene with similarity to FLC is induced by cold and correlated with epigenetic changes to control budbreak in kiwifruit

Charlotte Voogd et al.

Summary: The growth and dormancy of temperate perennials are regulated by complex genetic networks and epigenetic mechanisms. In a transcriptome study of kiwifruit buds, a MADS-box gene similar to Arabidopsis FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) was identified with elevated expression during bud dormancy and chilling. Epigenetic regulation was also observed in response to cold. Overexpression of the gene resulted in earlier budbreak, while gene editing delayed budbreak.

KNOX II transcription factor HOS59 functions in regulating rice grain size

Minghao Sheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the genome-wide binding sites of HOS59, a member of the rice KNOX Class II subfamily, were characterized using ChIP-seq technology. Trait Ontology analysis identified 9705 downstream target genes related to plant morphology and stress traits. Validation experiments confirmed the role of HOS59 as a repressor of these target genes, negatively regulating rice grain size and plant architecture. The identification of downstream target genes and interaction proteins of HOS59 improves our understanding of the KNOX regulatory networks.

Hjoerleifur Einarsson et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the sequence and transcription start site architectures of promoters and their expression variability across human individuals. The results show that expression variability can be largely explained by a promoter's DNA sequence and its binding sites for specific transcription factors. Additionally, the study reveals a trade-off between stability and plasticity for different types of genes.
