Eco-friendly enhanced microwave synthesis of polyaniline/chitosan-AgNP composites, their physical characterisation and antibacterial properties

Marija R. Gizdavic-Nikolaidis et al.

Summary: An eco-friendly enhanced microwave method was used to prepare antibacterial polyaniline/chitosan-silver nanoparticle composites. The presence of silver nanoparticles influenced the aniline polymerisation and led to enhanced crosslinking of chitosan with polyaniline in the composites. The composites prepared by the microwave method exhibited better bactericidal efficacy against bacteria compared to the ones prepared by the classical synthesis method.

Composition tuning of scalable antibacterial polyaniline/chitosan composites through rapid enhanced microwave synthesis

Marija Gizdavic-Nikolaidis et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile and rapid method for the synthesis of PANI and PANI/Ch composites using enhanced microwave synthesis. The morphology and structure of the composites can be fine-tuned by adjusting the synthesis conditions. The PANI/Ch composites exhibit enhanced antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria compared to pure Chs and PANI samples. This eco-friendly method can serve as an alternative for large-scale industrial production of these polymer composites.

New approach to prepare cytocompatible 3D scaffolds via the combination of sodium hyaluronate and colloidal particles of conductive polymers

Thanh Huong Truong et al.

Summary: Bio-inspired conductive scaffolds containing water-miscible polyaniline or polypyrrole particles were prepared using either crosslinking or freeze-thawing methods. The scaffolds had interconnected pores and adjustable elasticity modulus, allowing cell adhesion and growth. This study is important as it overcomes the limitations of conductive polymers and provides a new solution for repairing damaged electro-sensitive tissues.
