Hierarchical Coordination of Transmission and Distribution System Operations in European Balancing Markets

Ilyes Mezghani et al.

Summary: We propose a hierarchical scheme for coordinating transmission and distribution system operations in European balancing markets. We compare our proposal to recent research projects and demonstrate its effectiveness in resolving coordination dilemmas. We implement a market clearing platform that can match market orders, cope with non-convexities, scale to realistic size, and respect decentralization in European electricity markets.

Transactive Energy Sharing in a Microgrid via an Enhanced Distributed Adaptive Robust Optimization Approach

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a transactive energy sharing (TES) approach for minimizing the total social cost in microgrids, considering network operating constraints. The approach utilizes an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and an adaptive robust optimization (ARO) method to address the uncertainties in the system. The simulation results confirm the efficiency and robustness of the proposed TES method.

A DSO Framework for Market Participation of DER Aggregators in Unbalanced Distribution Networks

Mohammad Mousavi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a framework for the participation of distributed energy resources (DERs) aggregators in the wholesale and retail markets. The framework includes a distribution system operator (DSO) that coordinates the energy and regulation offers of aggregators and the energy consumption of end-users. Various types of DER aggregators are modeled, and a linearized unbalanced power flow is used to model the operating constraints of the distribution grid. A market settlement approach is proposed for the DSO, ensuring its non-profit characteristic. Case studies are performed to examine the market outcomes of the proposed DSO on modified distribution test systems.

Transmission and Distribution Substation Energy Management Considering Large-Scale Energy Storage, Demand Side Management and Security-Constrained Unit Commitment

Hossein Jokar et al.

Summary: This paper presents a bi-level optimization model for the transmission network market and energy management in the distribution substation. The proposed model uses the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) equation modeling method to convert the bi-level problem to a single-level problem, resulting in improved problem-solving efficiency. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Modeling of transactive energy in multi-microgrid systems by hybrid of competitive-cooperative games

Hamid Karimi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a hybrid cooperative-competitive strategy for modeling transactive energy in interconnected microgrid systems. The DSO designs transactive prices for energy exchange with ICMG for profit maximization, while increasing the bargaining power of ICMG through cooperation among MGs. The model utilizes a probabilistic approach to handle uncertainties and achieves cost reduction and improved system reliability through cooperation.

Distribution Market-Clearing and Pricing Considering Coordination of DSOs and ISO: An EPEC Approach

Houhe Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a bi-level optimization model that considers the interactions between the distribution electricity market and the transmission wholesale market, as well as the resulting impacts. Equilibria of multiple Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and the Independent System Operator (ISO) are found by modeling the Locational Marginal Prices (LMPs) at substations and DER dispatch. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution method is demonstrated through case studies.

Bilevel Optimization Model for the Design of Distribution Use-of-System Tariffs

Panagiotis Pediaditis et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the design of short-term distribution use-of-system tariffs through a bilevel optimization model, utilizing a clustering approach to design tariffs that adapt to forecasted conditions. Results from case studies demonstrate the impact of different levels of tariff granularity on economic efficiency, and validate the performance of the proposed clustering approach under various scenarios with different numbers of clusters.
