Dynamic response of functionally graded porous-core sandwich plates subjected to blast load using ES-MITC3 element

Quoc-Hoa Pham et al.

Summary: The main objective of this paper is to propose the ES-MITC3 element for the dynamic analysis of sandwich plates with a functionally graded porous core subjected to blast load. The ES-MITC3 element is created to enhance the accuracy and convergence of the MITC3 element as well as the traditional triangular element. The governing equations of sandwich plates are inferred using Hamilton's principle, and the linear differential equations are solved using the Newmark-beta approach. Several studies confirm the performance of the proposed method, and new numerical results on the vibration characteristic of sandwich plates are provided.

Blast loads and variability on cylindrical shells under different charge orientations

Fei Yin et al.

Summary: In this paper, the anti-blast design of cylindrical shells is studied. Cylindrical charges in five directions were exploded to measure the blast loads and capture blast waves. The analysis of the test and simulation results reveals significant differences in peak overpressure of the blast waves between different orientations and an abrupt change in the blast loads at a specific angle. The findings provide a reference for establishing a blast load database of typical buildings.

Effects of the magneto-electro-elastic layer on the CNTRC cylindrical shell

Nguyen Dinh Duc et al.

Summary: This study aims to use the classical theory cylindrical shell to provide analytical solutions to illustrate the effect of magneto-electro-elastic material layer properties on the vibration of smart sandwich cylindrical shell. The results show that the addition of MEE layer has an impact on nonlinear vibration, considering different types of CNT distribution and special structural forms (elliptical cylindrical shell).

Third-order isogeometric analysis for vibration characteristics of FGP plates in the thermal environment supported by Kerr foundation

Ngoc Anh Vu et al.

Summary: This paper extends the isogeometric analysis based on third-order shear deformation theory for vibration analysis of functionally graded porous plates in a thermal environment resting on Kerr foundation. The proposed method could accurately represent the geometry and satisfy higher-order approximation conditions, ensuring high accuracy without using any correction factors. The effectiveness of the method was validated through numerical examples, considering the effects of geometrical parameters, material properties, boundary conditions, temperature change, and foundation stiffness on the thermal vibration of FGP plates.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the effects of various geometrical parameters, materials, and boundary conditions on the vibrations of a smart cylindrical sandwich shell, and use the bees algorithm to optimize the natural frequencies based on the geometric and material parameters. The shell structure consists of two layers of magneto-electro-elastic material and a middle layer of functionally graded graphene platelets reinforced composite. The results of the study are discussed through parametric studies.

Porosity effect on the nonlinear deflection of functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic smart shells under combined loading

Vinyas Mahesh

Summary: This article presents a higher-order nonlinear finite element formulation to evaluate the nonlinear deformation of functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic porous shells under the influence of electro-magnetic and mechanical loads. Different gradients, porosity distributions, and electromagnetic loads are analyzed for their effects on the nonlinear central deflection of FG-MEEP shells, with attention paid to distinguishing structural responses at fully coupled and uncoupled states.

The extended Rayleigh-Ritz method for an analysis of nonlinear vibrations

Ji Wang

Summary: An extension of the Rayleigh-Ritz method has been developed by integrating the energy functional over the time of one period of vibration, effectively eliminating harmonics from the deformation function. This extension provides a new technique for the analysis of free and forced nonlinear vibrations of structures, offering significant advantages. This approach involves an eigenvalue problem for the frequency-amplitude dependence of nonlinear vibrations of small deformation.

Nonlinear transient analysis of porous P-FGM and S-FGM sandwich plates and shell panels under blast loading and thermal environment

Abhilash Karakoti et al.

Summary: The present work develops a simple and accurate finite element formulation based on C-0 continuity of transverse displacement for obtaining and comparing the nonlinear transient response of porous functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates and shell panels. Through validation and parametric studies, it is observed that the amplitude of the nonlinear transient response due to different blast loading can be controlled by selecting optimal parameters.

Solvent induced enhancement of nonlinear optical response of graphdiyne

Yuze Dong et al.

Summary: The study experimentally probed the third-order nonlinear optical response of graphdiyne (GD) dispersed in different alcohols using a femtosecond Z-scan technique. Results showed that the strongest NLO response was observed when GD was dispersed in 1-propanol, indicating that solvent properties such as polarity and viscosity could influence GD materials' NLO response.

Deformation and failure of thin spherical shells under dynamic impact loading: Experiment and analytical model

Jianqiao Li et al.

Summary: Thin curved shells, especially shallow spherical shells, are widely used in engineering applications. This study investigated the dynamic response and perforation of an aluminum spherical shell impacted by a cylindrical projectile using theoretical and experimental methods. Theoretical predictions of dimple radius, dimple depth, and ballistic limit were compared with experimental results, showing good agreement between them. Various models were applied to describe different aspects of the impact, leading to an improved understanding of the behavior of impacted shells.
