Success Rate of Mandible Implants Placed in Vascularized Fibula Bone Graft: A Systematic Review

Alan Ardisson et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines the success rate of implant placement after mandible reconstruction with vascularized fibula bone graft. A total of 13 eligible cohort studies were selected, involving 285 vascularized fibular reconstructions and 910 implants. The success rate of the reconstructions was approximately 98% after a mean follow-up period of 40 months, with a success rate of 92.6% for the implants after the same period. The study also found that risk factors such as irradiation and alcohol and tobacco use did not significantly affect implant failure.

Immediate Teeth in Fibulas: Expanded Clinical Applications and Surgical Technique

Fayette C. Williams et al.

Summary: Immediate placement of dental prostheses on immediate implants during fibula reconstruction of the jaws can be performed with a high rate of predictability. This technique can be expanded to select patients needing skin paddles. Modifications of traditional fibula reconstructive techniques are helpful to minimize soft tissue and prosthetic challenges.

Survival of dental implants and occurrence of osteoradionecrosis in irradiated head and neck cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Daniel Jan Toneatti et al.

Summary: This systematic review assessed dental implant survival and osteoradionecrosis incidence in irradiated head and neck cancer patients. Results showed lower implant survival in irradiated patients compared to non-irradiated patients, and osteoradionecrosis as a rare but serious complication. Radiation therapy and grafting status were key factors influencing implant survival.
