Initial Validity Evidence for the Youth Interpersonal Behaviors Questionnaire in Sport (Y-IBQ)

Meredith Wekesser et al.

Summary: This study aimed to provide validity evidence for the Youth Interpersonal Behaviors Questionnaire (Y-IBQ) for youth athletes. A three-phase mixed-methods design was employed, which empirically examined the internal structure for youth athletes' responses to the IBQ in Phase I, used cognitive think-aloud interviews to modify problematic items in the IBQ and create the Y-IBQ in Phase II, and examined the psychometric properties of the Y-IBQ in Phase III to provide initial validity evidence for this instrument in a youth athlete sample.

Testing Measurement Invariance in Physical Education and Exercise Science: A Tutorial Using the Well-Being Self-Efficacy Scale

Christine E. Pacewicz et al.

Summary: Measurement invariance is a crucial technique in the fields of physical education and exercise science, helping researchers confidently examine group differences and change over time. By testing the equivalence of constructs across different groups or time periods, we can more accurately attribute differences in latent means to individual differences in standings on a construct.

Trainer-exerciser relationship: The congruency effect on exerciser psychological needs using response surface analysis

Filipe Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The study found that fitness trainers tend to over-report their use of need-supportive behavior and under-report their need-thwarting behaviors. Results showed that when there was congruency between fitness trainers' reported use and exercisers' perception of interpersonal behaviors, basic need satisfaction tended to increase, especially for exercisers who rated their respective fitness trainer high on relatedness support.

Summary: Grounded in self-determination theory, this study aimed to examine the effects of need satisfaction and frustration on motivational regulations for exercise using a response surface analysis approach.
