Inequities in Child Protective Services Contact Between Black and White Children

Income poverty is a predictor of CPS contact for White families, while racialized family regulation and consequences of poverty impact CPS contact in Black families. Refundable state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) policies are protective for Black families, and more expansive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs decrease CPS contact for both Black and White families.

Understanding the benefits of child-parent psychotherapy delivered via telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic

The virtual delivery of CPP decreased accessibility barriers and offers recommendations for improvement.

Childhood and adulthood trauma exposure: Associations with perinatal mental health and psychotherapy response

Summary: This study examines the impacts of childhood and adulthood trauma exposure on PTSD and depressive symptoms among pregnant women. The results show that trauma exposure during both childhood and adulthood are associated with higher levels of PTSD symptoms. Only adulthood trauma exposure is positively associated with depressive symptoms. Women with higher levels of adulthood trauma exposure have higher baseline levels of PTSD and depressive symptoms, but also show a more significant decrease in symptoms posttreatment.

Summary: This article systematically reviewed the association between intimate partner violence (IPV) exposure and perinatal post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and depression. The findings showed a strong relationship between IPV exposure and perinatal mental health, particularly for IPV sustained close to or during the perinatal period. Physical, sexual, and psychological IPV were independently associated with perinatal depression and PTSS. These findings highlight the importance of theoretically driven research and the development of treatment protocols for women worldwide.
