Identifying barriers and facilitators to implementing mindfulness-based programmes into schools: A mixed methods study

Dong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study examined the barriers and facilitators to implementing mindfulness-based programs in schools by surveying teachers and interviewing principals. Teachers and principals identified factors such as self-efficacy, motivation, knowledge about mindfulness, and responsibility as facilitators, while time, resources/money, and staff buy-in were seen as barriers to successful implementation. Understanding these factors is crucial for policymakers looking to expand mindfulness-based programs in Australia.

Efficacy of a mindfulness-based programme with and without virtual reality support to reduce stress in university students: A randomized controlled trial

Marta Modrego-Alarcon et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of a mindfulness-based programme (MBP) for reducing stress in university students, finding that both MBP and MBP + VR groups were superior to the Relaxation group in improving stress and secondary outcomes. The study suggests that MBPs improve stress through mindfulness and self-compassion, while VR exposure may enhance treatment adherence.

Summary: Research suggests that mindfulness has positive effects on individual well-being, but its impact on interpersonal relationships is less clear. The effects of mindfulness on prosocial behavior appear to vary based on individuals' self-construals, with independent and interdependent self-construals showing different responses to mindfulness induction.

First, do no harm: An intensive experience sampling study of adverse effects to mindfulness training

Anna Aizik-Reebs et al.

Summary: The study found that many participants may experience transient anxiety during mindfulness meditation, but these experiences may not necessarily constitute objective harm. The observed deterioration in daily living post-intervention may be partially explained by increased awareness to internal states. Neither momentary adverse effects nor vulnerability factors at pre-intervention could accurately predict adverse effects post-intervention.
