Perceived Disaster Preparedness between Asian Americans and Other Races: Mediating Roles of Information Seeking and Self-Efficacy

Zhirui Chen et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in perceived disaster preparedness between Asian Americans and other major races in the USA, revealing that Asian Americans perceived lower levels of preparedness due to lower self-efficacy and information-seeking behaviors. Collaboration with Asian American community organizations and the use of a transdisciplinary approach can help provide linguistically and culturally appropriate services and enhance self-efficacy in disaster preparedness education for this population, ultimately reducing racial disparities in disaster planning.

Beyond ethnic solidarity: the diversity and specialisation of social ties in a stigmatised migrant minority

Raffaele Vacca et al.

Summary: The study found that among Romanian Roma migrants in France, their social support differs from the assumptions of ethnic solidarity, sociodemographic homophily, and network closure. Instead, they align more closely with the model of 'networked individualism', maintaining diverse and far-reaching networks, choosing forms of elective belonging, and mobilizing different social ties for specialized support.

Using Instructed Response Items as Attention Checks in Web Surveys: Properties and Implementation

Tobias Gummer et al.

Summary: IRIs can identify inattentive respondents by detecting patterns of straightlining, speeding, item nonresponse, inconsistent answers, and implausible statements throughout the survey. However, excluding these respondents did not impact the substantive analysis results, and inattentiveness of respondents partially changes as the survey completion context changes. Additionally, exposure to an IRI did not significantly affect response behavior within a survey according to experimental evidence.
