Predicting daily global solar radiation in various climatic regions of China based on hybrid support vector machines with meta-heuristic algorithms

Zongjun Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, three hybrid models (ACO-SVM, CS-SVM, and GWO-SVM) based on optimization algorithms were proposed to predict global solar radiation (Rs) in four climate zones of China. The hybrid models exhibited higher accuracy than standalone models, with GWO-SVM performing the best. These models can significantly improve the accuracy for predicting Rs in various regions of China.

An Inclusive Review on the Assessment of Different Techniques for Natural Gas Liquid Recovery

Muhammad Usman et al.

Summary: A comprehensive review is provided on the NGL recovery process, focusing on process description, energy requirements, NGL production, operating cost, and propane recovery. Various technologies such as ISS, RSV, CRR, GSP, and IPSI are discussed, with emphasis on different sections of the demethanizer column. The fluor process, consisting of an absorber, scrub column, and HHC separator, is introduced as an integrated process for liquefaction and NGL separation. The economic performance of the IPSI process is found to be superior for rich feed, while the scrub column scheme shows the best economic performance for lean feed.

Multi-objective optimization of a small turbojet engine energetic performance

Hakan Aygun et al.

Summary: The application of small turbojet engines is increasing due to their high power to weight ratio and reliability. This study analyzes the effects of different design variables on the performance metrics of small turbojet engines. By using multi-objective genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization, and grey wolf optimization, the study considers several performance metrics of the engines. The findings show that increasing turbine inlet temperature improves net thrust but increases specific fuel consumption, while increasing compressor pressure ratio decreases net thrust but reduces specific fuel consumption. The optimization results suggest that different optimization methods can be utilized depending on the specific mission of the turbojet engine.

Modeling the mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete using hybrid machine learning algorithms

Yiming Peng et al.

Summary: By building a comprehensive database with 607 records, the complex functional relationship between key parameters of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), such as recycled aggregate properties, mix proportion, and compressive strength, was explored. Two standard algorithms (artificial neural network and support vector regression) and two optimized hybrid models (Particle Swarm Optimization based support vector regression and grey Wolf optimizer based support vector regression) were used. Additionally, two interpretable algorithms (Partial Dependence Plot and SHapley Additive exPlanations) were applied to assess the global and local approaches independent of machine learning models. Results showed that the hybrid models outperformed the conventional models, with the coefficient of determination (R2) of the optimized hybrid models reaching above 0.89.

Multi-objective particle swarm optimization for multimode surface wave analysis

Yiming Wang et al.

Summary: Obtaining S-wave velocity profiles from Rayleigh wave multimode phase velocity dispersion curves is achieved using the multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm. The uncertainty of inversion parameters is evaluated through the morphology of the Pareto front and the standard deviation of the Pareto optimal solution set. This study demonstrates the accuracy and applicability of the MOPSO algorithm in inverting multimode dispersion curves.

An improved adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system model using conjoined metaheuristic algorithms for electrical conductivity prediction

Iman Ahmadianfar et al.

Summary: Accurate prediction of water quality parameters, such as electrical conductivity (EC), is crucial for early alert of water pollution and effective water resources management. This study proposes an integration of adaptive hybrid optimization methods and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for EC prediction. The proposed method, A-DEPSO, enhances both global and local search mechanisms and prevents solutions from being trapped in local optima. The results demonstrate that the proposed model improves EC prediction accuracy and outperforms other models in terms of statistical metrics.
