Phase-field viscoelastic fracture modeling of polymer composites using strain tensor spectral decomposition

Hongwei Yuan et al.

Summary: This study develops a new viscoelastic fracture phase-field model to accurately simulate the strength differential effect and isostatic pressure dependence of polymer composites. The proposed method uses the strain tensor spectral decomposition to decompose the elastic energy into tensile and compressive components. Various case studies and comparisons with existing methods demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.

Model averaging and probability of detection estimation under hierarchical uncertainties for Lamb wave detection

Chenjun Gao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method for model averaging and detection probability estimation using Lamb waves, constructing a hierarchical probabilistic model in the Bayesian framework. The proposed method allows for explicit incorporation of uncertainties from model choice, model parameters, and other variables, and uses a reservable jump Markov chain Monte Carlo method for efficient evaluation. The robustness of the method is demonstrated through testing on specimens with naturally developed cracks and a naturally developed inclined crack, showing superiority to individual models.

High resolution bolt pre-load looseness monitoring using coda wave interferometry

Dongdong Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new concept, DRBP, using CWI to quantitatively measure pre-load looseness at high resolution. By calculating the time-shifted correlation coefficient of coda waves, tiny pre-load changes can be revealed, and verification experiments show great potential and high resolution of the proposed method.

An Engineering Prediction Model for Stress Relaxation of Polymer Composites at Multiple Temperatures

Xiaochang Duan et al.

Summary: This study develops an engineering prediction model for stress relaxation of polymer composites, allowing the prediction of stress relaxation behavior under different temperatures and strains. The model parameters are established based on stress relaxation data, and the effectiveness of the model is verified and compared with other commonly used models. A user subroutine is also developed for practical applications.

Feasibility of Model-Assisted Probability of Detection Principles for Structural Health Monitoring Systems Based on Guided Waves for Fiber-Reinforced Composites

Kilian Tschoeke et al.

Summary: Structural health monitoring is seen as an addition to nondestructive testing to reduce maintenance efforts. The lack of suitable methods to assess the reliability of SHM systems is a major obstacle, mainly due to the need for a large number of samples. By utilizing computer-aided investigations and extracting POD curves, this problem can be addressed.

Nonlinear Guided-Wave Mixing for Condition Monitoring of Bolted Joints

Juan Carlos Pineda Allen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of nonlinear guided-wave mixing for integrity monitoring of bolted joints in plates. Combinational harmonics were found to be highly correlated to the applied torque level in the joint, and remain robust for different numbers of cycles in detecting bolt loosening. The findings provide physical insight into the phenomena of nonlinear Lamb wave mixing for evaluating applied torque in bolted joints.
