Chemical complementarity between immune receptor CDR3s and candidate cancer antigens correlating with reduced survival: evidence for outcome mitigation with corticosteroid treatments

Anishaa R. Patel et al.

Summary: Evaluation of adaptive immune receptor (IR) recombination sequences has shown correlations with diseases, especially cancer, focusing on the complementarity determining region-3 (CDR3) amino acid (AA) sequences. High chemical complementarity scores (CS) between IR CDR3 AA sequences and cancer antigens may improve patient survival outcomes.

BRF2 is mediated by microRNA-409-3p and promotes invasion and metastasis of HCC through the Wnt/β-catenin pathway

Jian-Hua Chang et al.

Summary: In this study, BRF2 was identified and validated as an oncogene in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), shedding light on the pathogenesis and therapeutic possibilities for HCC. BRF2 expression was upregulated in HCC, while its depletion inhibited HCC metastasis and invasion. Additionally, miR-409-3p was identified as a regulator of BRF2, and the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway may play a role in early HCC development.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

The burden of primary liver cancer caused by specific etiologies from 1990 to 2019 at the global, regional, and national levels

Jianqing Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents the burden of liver cancer at the global, regional, and national levels. Liver cancer remains a major public health issue worldwide, with a high number of mortalities and incident cases in 2019. Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are the main causes of liver cancer mortality. China has the highest burden of liver cancer, both in terms of deaths and disease burden.

Immunogenomics Parameters for Patient Stratification in Alzheimer's Disease

Taha Huda et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the chemical features of adaptive immune receptors in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Through analyzing T-cell receptor alpha (TRA) complementarity determining region-3 (CDR3), the researchers found associations between certain TRA CDR3 features and the severity of AD. The study also suggested that evaluating the adaptive immune response to tau could potentially serve as a basis for AD risk stratification.

Chemical complementarity between tumor resident, T-cell receptor CDR3s and MAGEA3/6 correlates with increased melanoma survival: Potential relevance to MAGE vaccine auto-reactivity

Rachel A. Eakins et al.

Summary: This study used a chemical complementarity scoring algorithm and a web tool to investigate the electrostatic complementarity between cancer testis antigens and T-cell receptors in melanoma specimens. The results showed that stronger electrostatic complementarity was associated with higher overall survival and increased expression of cytotoxicity-related genes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Advances in immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Bruno Sangro et al.

Summary: Immunotherapeutic interventions have shown effectiveness in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Checkpoint inhibitors have demonstrated strong anti-tumor activity, but other immune strategies have not yet shown consistent clinical activity. Advancing treatment to earlier stages, discovering predictive biomarkers, and exploring effective combinatorial approaches are key challenges in HCC immunotherapy.

A comparison of immune receptor recombination databases sourced from tumour exome or RNAseq files: Verifications of immunological distinctions between primary and metastatic melanoma

Dhruv N. Patel et al.

Summary: It has been found that RNAseq and exome files prepared from tissue can be utilized for analyzing adaptive immune receptor recombination, adding value to datasets originally intended for gene expression or mutation studies. The two sets of IR recombination reads largely agree on several parameters, but using CDR3 chemical features for survival distinctions shows inconsistency. Recovery of TRB recombination reads from metastatic melanoma is associated with a better outcome, while the recovery of IR recombination reads from primary melanoma indicates a worse outcome.

High-throughput, sliding-window algorithm for assessing chemical complementarity between immune receptor CDR3 domains and cancer mutant peptides: TRG-PIK3CA interactions and breast cancer

Boris I. Chobrutskiy et al.

Summary: Physicochemical assessments of adaptive immune receptor recombinations have led to correlations with subdivisions of diseases. In cancer settings, assessments of the immune receptor CDR3 domain have been used to establish chemical complementarity matches to mutant amino acids, correlating with survival and gene expression distinctions. This approach has been expanded to include a more comprehensive representation of T-cell receptor CDR3 interactions with mutant amino acids, showing significant patient subdivisions and enabling more efficient development of patient immunology-related prognostic tools and therapies.
