Low-color-temperature white QD light-emitting electrochemical cells

Hsiang-Ling Shen et al.

Summary: Low-color-temperature white light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on mixed CdZnSeS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) and an ionic transition metal complex (iTMC) carrier injection layer are demonstrated. These white LECs exhibit white electroluminescence (EL) with a low correlated color temperature (CCT) < 1800 K and a high color rendering index (CRI) > 90 under lower currents. Removing the blue QDs from the white QD LECs not only prevents the CCT from increasing under a higher device current but also improves the device efficiency.

Regulating energy gap in Ir-based ionic complexes to generate near-infrared emissions: Application in solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells

Yan-Ding Lin et al.

Summary: Solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) have high potential for commercial electronics due to their simple device architectures, low-voltage operation, and compatibility with inert metal electrodes. However, the low device efficiency of most deep-red and near-infrared (NIR) LECs hinders their application. In this study, a simple method to tune the energy gap between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of iridium-based ionic transition metal complexes (iTMCs) is demonstrated to generate NIR emissions. The highest EQE of LECs could be further enhanced to >2.34% using a host-guest emission system.

Extremely Large Polymer Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells with Concentric Circular Electrodes

Abhishake Goyal et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates planar polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) with concentric circle electrodes. By varying the inner electrode radius from 1 to 3 mm with a fixed outer electrode radius of 6.8 mm, all cells can be activated at 360 K with a 40 V bias. The large electrode gap size allows for time-lapsed imaging of the in situ electrochemical p- and n-doping processes, and the concentric circular electrode configuration offers a cross sectional view of an LEC-based light-emitting fiber. Furthermore, the sensitivity of junction position to relative electrode radius indicates the strong coupling of p- and n-doping reactions.
