Effect of thermal treatment on the structural, morphological, and chemical properties of apatite bioceramicsmaterials

N. E. Ghamri et al.

Summary: Monitoring synthesis conditions of apatite phosphate by double decomposition is useful due to the simplicity and rapidity. This study investigates the influence of thermal treatment and synthesis temperature on the structure of apatite powders. XRD, FTIR, and SEM-EDX techniques were used to analyze the effects of synthesis and sintering temperature. The results show that calcination has no effect on the stability of HAP phase and β-TCP persists in the highest percentage.

Summary: This article reports the possibility of co-localization of CO32- and Mg2+ ions in the structure of hydroxyapatite (HA) using density functional theory calculations. The analysis reveals the formation of a favorable complex when these ions interact with each other. The theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental data.

Biocompatibility and mechanical properties of pigeon bone waste extracted natural nano-hydroxyapatite for bone tissue engineering

Fariborz Sharifianjazi et al.

Summary: Naturally derived nano-hydroxyapatite (PHA) was prepared from waste pigeon bones using ball milling, with an average particle size of 50-250 nm. Sintering the nanoparticles at 1050 degrees C resulted in a Ca/P ratio of 1.7 and improved hardness and compressive strength. Alkaline phosphatase analysis and MTT assay showed significant enhancement in osteoblast cell activity and proliferation compared to synthetic HAp.

Olga Nikolaevna Makshakova et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the introduction of iron (II) and (III) into the HAp lattice through density functional theory calculations, revealing the energetically comparable positions for Fe2+ in Ca(1) and Ca(2) and the preference for Fe3+ in Ca(2). The inclusion of iron causes cell contraction and local reorganization in the HAp cell.

Forsterite-hydroxyapatite composite scaffolds with photothermal antibacterial activity for bone repair

Weiye Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method to deposit hydroxyapatite coating on polymer-derived forsterite scaffolds through hydrothermal treatment, achieving photothermal-induced antibacterial ability and bioactivity. The hydroxyapatite coating did not affect the mechanical strength and photothermal effect of the scaffolds, but promoted the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat bone mesenchymal stem cells on the scaffolds.

Eggshell as a biomaterial can have a sorption capability on its surface: A spectroscopic research

Neslihan Kaya Kinayturk et al.

Summary: The study utilized eggshells as a biomaterial for adsorption of harmful chemicals, specifically insecticides. By using various techniques like AFM, FTIR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy, the study aimed to analyze the interaction effect of insecticides on the surface of eggshells and evaluate the adsorption process. It was found that the porous structure of eggshells with an electronegativity attractive surface makes them an ideal adsorbent for insecticides.
