Adsorptions of C5F10O decomposed compounds on the Cu-decorated NiS2 monolayer: a first-principles theory

Hailong Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of Cu-decorated NiS2 monolayer and its adsorption and sensing performance for C5F10O decomposed species. The Cu atom is found to prefer the H1 site with a formation energy of -3.09 eV. Chemisorption occurs in the Cu-NiS2/C2F6O3 system, while physisorption occurs in the C3F6, CF2O, C2F6, and CF4 systems. The Cu-NiS2 monolayer shows potential as a reusable C3F6 or CF2O sensor and a high-sensitive one-shot C2F6O3 sensor, but is not suitable for C2F6 and CF4 sensing. This work is significant for proposing novel sensing materials for C5F10O-based insulation devices in the power system.

Nucleobases adsorption studies on chair graphane nanosheets-A DFT outlook

V. Nagarajan et al.

Summary: We investigated the adsorption properties of guanine, adenine, thymine, cytosine, and uracil on chair graphane nanosheets using density functional theory (DFT). The stability of chair graphane was confirmed by its negative formation energy. The adsorption energy indicated that the nucleobases chemisorbed on chair graphane. Furthermore, charge transfer, charge density difference, and projected density of states spectrum revealed the interaction between the nucleobases and chair graphane.

Novel cubic silicane nanosheet as an adsorbing medium for dimethylbutane and methylhexane molecules - a first-principles study

M. S. Jyothi et al.

Summary: The geometric stability and electronic properties of cubic silicane (c-Si-12) nanosheet were investigated using first-principles studies. The nanosheet exhibited a band gap of 2.259 eV and physical adsorption of target molecules was observed. The electronic properties of the nanosheet were found to change, indicating its chemo-resistive nature. Therefore, the c-Si-12 nanosheet shows potential as a sensing substrate for 2,2-dimethylbutane and 2-methylhexane molecules.

Benzyl chloride and benzyl bromide adsorption studies on tetragonal silicane sheets-a DFT outlook

M. S. Jyothi et al.

Summary: The adsorption properties of benzyl chloride and benzyl bromide on tetragonal silicane were studied using density functional theory. Tetra-silicane showed a stable structure with a band gap of 2.887 eV. Hydrogenation along the vertical directions increased the band gap, making tetra-silicane suitable for adsorbing benzyl chloride and benzyl bromide molecules. The electronic properties of tetra-silicane changed upon adsorption, as evident from charge transfer, electron density difference diagrams, band structure, and projected density of states spectrum. Tetra-silicane exhibited chemo-resistive properties when adsorbing benzyl chloride and benzyl bromide molecules. This study opens new possibilities for sensing materials to detect these chemical warfare agents.

Building up a general selection strategy and catalytic performance prediction expressions of heteronuclear double-atom catalysts for N2 reduction

Yibo Wu et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between the inherent properties of heteronuclear double-atom catalysts and catalytic activity. By summarizing the free energy for key steps of the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) on 55 catalysts calculated through first-principles, the expressions for predicting free energy and corresponding descriptors are derived using machine learning. The selection strategy for the central atom of heteronuclear double-atom catalysts is proposed, and five catalysts with low limiting potential and excellent selectivity are screened. This work has guiding significance for experimental efforts to select heteronuclear double-atom catalytic centers.

CNT biodevices for early liver cancer diagnosis based on biomarkers detection- a promising platform

Aref Aasi et al.

Summary: In this study, platinum-decorated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were proposed as a nanodevice for detecting liver cancer biomarkers in the exhaled breath of patients. The structural and electronic properties of the decorated SWCNTs were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations.
