Guided Participation for Clinical Practice A Middle-Range Theory of Teaching and Learning

Karen Pridham et al.

Summary: The theory of guided participation in clinical practice emphasizes the role of the teacher in guiding the learner through a dynamic process that addresses the learner's specific needs and goals. This process leads to the development of competencies in health-related functions. The understanding of the learner's internal working model is crucial in formulating personalized guided participation processes that cater to the learner's cultural and personal situation.

Virtually Delivered Psychosocial Intervention for Prenatally Diagnosed Congenital Heart Disease: Feasibility and Acceptability of HEARTPrep

Erica Sood et al.

Summary: Prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease often leads to anxiety, depression, and traumatic stress in expectant mothers, but psychosocial intervention is rarely incorporated into prenatal care. HEARTPrep, a virtual psychosocial intervention, aims to reduce distress, social isolation, and increase parenting self-efficacy and hope. This study evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of HEARTPrep among mothers receiving cardiology care for a fetal CHD diagnosis.

Examining the Real-Life Journey of Individuals and Families Affected by Single-Ventricle Congenital Heart Disease

Carlos M. M. Mery et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the lifetime journey of individuals with single-ventricle congenital heart disease and their families. The most meaningful outcomes to patients and parents were identified, along with significant gaps in care. By addressing these gaps and redesigning care around their needs and priorities, we can improve outcomes for these patients and their families.

Acceptability and Initial Adoption of the Heart Observation App for Infants With Congenital Heart Disease: Qualitative Study

Elin Hjorth-Johansen et al.

Summary: This study aims to report the acceptability and initial adoption of a mobile app called Heart Observation app (HOBS) in supporting parents' understanding and management of their child's condition and increasing the quality of follow-up from healthcare professionals in Norway's complex healthcare services. The research shows that both parents and healthcare professionals found HOBS to be a positive addition to the healthcare system and follow-up. However, healthcare professionals should provide guidance to parents initially and adapt the timing according to their receptivity.

The parental journey of fetal care: a systematic review and metasynthesis

Abigail Wilpers et al.

Summary: This study synthesized qualitative literature on parental experiences of fetal care across diverse settings to better understand their positive and negative experiences with care delivery. The findings highlighted key events influencing parental experience, as well as themes associated with a positive care experience, such as gaining understanding, feeling understood, realizing agency and control, and finding hope and meaning. Identifying aspects of healthcare delivery that serve as barriers or facilitators to positive experiences can help improve care and meet the needs of parents undergoing a life-defining event.
