Enhanced low-temperature response of Ga2O3-based oxygen sensor by modulating the surficial micro-nano structures

Jingjing Zhao et al.

Summary: By using high-vacuum radio-frequency magnetron sputtering, Ga2O3 with three different surface micro-nano structures, including thin film, nanowires, and nano-hybrids, was successfully synthesized. All the produced Ga2O3-based gas sensors exhibited high responses at lower operating temperatures (300-400 degrees C). Among them, the sensor fabricated on Ga2O3 with nano-hybrid structure showed the highest response, most stable cycling performance, and fastest response speed. The superior performance was attributed to the increased specific surface area and pore volume, enabling more active sites for oxygen adsorption and desorption. This work demonstrated the potential applications of nanostructured Ga2O3 in low-temperature oxygen sensors.

UV-activated SnO2 thin film for air-atmospheric oxygen sensing at room temperature

Chenyang Liu et al.

Summary: A semiconductor oxygen sensor based on UV-activated SnO2 thin film with good selectivity and stability was successfully fabricated. It demonstrated a detection limit of 1% oxygen concentration and showed much higher crystallinity, faster response speed, and better selectivity compared to traditional methods. The sensor can operate at room temperature in air-atmosphere, which is the first of its kind.

High Oxygen Sensitivity of TiO2 Thin Films Deposited by ALD

Aleksei V. Almaev et al.

Summary: The gas sensitivity and structural properties of TiO2 thin films deposited by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (ALD) were examined. The ALD-deposited TiO2 thin films demonstrated high sensitivity to O-2 and low concentrations of H-2, NO2. The ALD deposition allowed for enhanced sensitivity of TiO2 thin films to gases.

High-Performance MEMS Oxygen Sensors Based on Au/TiO2 Films

Mingzhi Jiao et al.

Summary: High-performance microelectromechanical system (MEMS) oxygen sensors were successfully achieved by depositing Au nanofilms over TiO2 thin films on commercial MEMS microhotplates. The 6 nm thick Au over TiO2 thin films exhibited the best sensitivity towards oxygen due to factors such as catalytical performance, height of Schottky contact, and number of oxygen vacancies.

A Reliable Strain Sensor Based on Bridging GaN Nanowires

Zhirui Li et al.

Summary: A reliable piezoresistive strain sensor (PSS) was fabricated using directly bridging GaN nanowires (NWs). The PSS demonstrated good repeatability, fast response speed, and a relatively high gauge factor (GF) of about 59. It is the first time that the piezoresistive effect of GaN nanowires was investigated.

Summary: This study investigates the electrical conductivity and gas response of TiO2 films deposited using IBSD at high temperatures. It is found that annealing temperature affects the response and recovery of the films, and the response to different gases can be controlled by varying the annealing conditions and film thickness.

Interaction activated interfacial charge transfer in 2D g-C3N4/GaN nanorods heterostructure for self-powered UV photodetector and room temperature NO2 gas sensor at ppb level

Maddaka Reddeppa et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the dual functionality of a self-powered ultraviolet light photodetector and selective NO2 gas sensor using a g-C3N4/GaN NRs heterostructure device. The device shows high responsivity and detectivity for UV light and remarkable response to NO2 gas, with the potential for further enhancement through UV and visible light stimulation. The improved response is attributed to sensitization of g-g-C3N4 and effective charge transport and separation at the g-g-C3N4/GaN NRs junction.

Modulation of wall thickness of Al-doped ZnO nanotubes by nanolamination of atomic layer deposition for oxygen sensing

Chi-Chung Kei et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel method to prepare an Al-doped ZnO nanotube oxygen sensor with tunable wall thickness, using tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) gallium nanowire as a template. The research shows that the gas response of the nanotubes is inversely proportional to wall thickness and is influenced by the Al2O3 content.

Development of CeO2-HfO2 Mixed Oxide Thin Films for High Performance Oxygen Sensors

N. Ramshanker et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors report the fabrication and characterization of CeO2-HfO2 mixed oxide thin films for oxygen gas sensors with controlled atomic concentrations of Ce and Hf. The superior sensing characteristics were attributed to the reactive plane (200) and oxygen vacancy formation due to Ce3+ ions and HfOx, x < 2 on the surface of the mixed oxide film. The sensor film with 10-11% Hf concentration showed excellent sensitivity, fast response and recovery times at 400 degrees C.

UV assisted room temperature oxygen sensors using titanium dioxide nanostructures

Hiran Jyothilal et al.

Summary: A room temperature oxygen sensor is developed using e-beam evaporated slanted nanorods of pure titanium dioxide and chromium doped TiO2, exhibiting excellent sensing properties under UV illumination. The sensor fabricated with Ti/Au bottom gap electrode with Cr-TiO2 as active material works well in a wide range of oxygen concentrations, with fast response and recovery times of around 3 s and 10 s, respectively. The superior sensing properties are attributed to enhanced electrical conductivity, exciton generation, desorption of water molecules, and increased interaction of oxygen molecules with the Cr-TiO2 nanorods facilitated by UV irradiation.

Effect of Oxygen on the Electrical Conductivity of Pt-Contacted α-Ga2O3/ε(κ)-Ga2O3 MSM Structures on Patterned Sapphire Substrates

Nikita N. Yakovlev et al.

Summary: The electrical conductivity and gas sensitivity of alpha-Ga2O3/epsilon (kappa)-Ga2O3 structures were measured at various oxygen concentrations and temperatures. It was observed that the oxygen sensitivity of the structures depended on the donor dopant concentration. Structures doped with a specific amount of Sn showed high sensitivity to O2 at certain temperatures and bias voltages, attributed to the chemisorption of oxygen molecules on the surface reducing energy barriers between epsilon (kappa)-Ga2O3 grains.
