Citizenization of rural migrants in China's new urbanization: The roles of hukou system reform and rural land marketization

Summary: The citizenization of rural migrants is an important goal for urbanization in developing countries. Factors such as migration policies and rural land tenurial arrangements have an impact on urbanization. This research confirms that extending rural land rights to farmers is more important for the citizenization of rural migrants than relaxing migration restrictions in developing countries. Rural land marketization can neutralize the negative effects of rural landholdings on citizenization.

Can residents regain their community relations after resettlement? Insights from Shanghai

Summary: This article investigates the restoration of residents' sense of belonging and neighborliness after being resettled in urban China, and explores the factors that have influenced this process. The study reveals that the sense of belonging and neighborly relations of residents have declined after resettlement. However, it also shows that residents who are satisfied with their new housing and neighborhood tend to have better neighborly relations and sense of belonging. Furthermore, the efforts made by the state in rebuilding communities have provided residents with a platform to interact and facilitate neighborliness and a sense of belonging.

Impact of poverty alleviation through relocation: From the perspectives of income and multidimensional poverty

Summary: Poverty alleviation through relocation (PAR) is an important project in winning the battle against extreme poverty. This study analyzed the effect of PAR on poor households' income and multidimensional poverty based on panel data from eight provinces in China. The results showed that PAR had a significantly negative effect on income and multidimensional poverty, with regional heterogeneity.

Hometown landholdings and rural migrants' integration intention: The case of urban China

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between hometown landholding and the integration intentions of rural migrants in Chinese cities. The study finds that the possession of contracted farmland tends to increase integration intentions, while the possession of homestead land has a depressing effect. The positive effect of farmland is stronger when its asset function is strong, and the negative effect of homestead land is reduced when migrants have purchased housing in the host cities. This study provides important theoretical and empirical support for understanding the integration of rural migrants.

Urbanization through resettlement and the production of space in Hangzhou's concentrated resettlement communities

Summary: This research provides an empirical perspective on the evolution of CRCs and the adaptation of landless farmers in the host city based on fieldwork conducted in Hangzhou in 2021. The study reveals three typologies of CRCs in Hangzhou and finds that villagers in early CRCs face economic challenges but maintain good social relations. Recent CRCs, however, have limited the spontaneous attempts of resettled villagers in reshaping space through strict planning and community management.
