A facile surface trap passivation of perovskite absorber enabled by tetrabenzocorrolazine dye for efficient and stable planar perovskite solar cells

Kyeong Su Kim et al.

Summary: This study designed a tetrabenzocorrolazine phosphorus dye (RC1) with electron-donating properties and hydroxyl functionalization as a multi-functional passivation agent for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The surface properties of the perovskite absorber were stabilized by the interaction between RC1 and the cations in the perovskite lattice, leading to improved optoelectronic properties and charge extraction/collection capability. The passivation effect of RC1 successfully reduced carrier recombination and energy loss, resulting in a hysteresis-free power conversion efficiency of 18.922% (14.466% for the control device) and long-term stability with only 10% efficiency loss after 2000 hours.

Urbach Energy and Open-Circuit Voltage Deficit for Mixed Anion-Cation Perovskite Solar Cells

Biwas Subedi et al.

Summary: The Urbach energy is a commonly used indicator of the electronic quality of thin-film materials in solar cells, and is influenced by the anion-cation composition. The correlation between the Urbach energy and the open-circuit voltage deficit of the perovskite thin film shows a direct relationship. However, some perovskite films show a lower Urbach energy but a higher open-circuit voltage deficit due to issues related to material quality and film processing techniques.

A cascade bilayer electron transport layer toward efficient and stable Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite solar cells

Kyeong Su Kim et al.

Summary: This study aims to optimize the interfaces in Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite (RPP) solar cells by incorporating fullerene derivative or non-fullerene organic semiconductor with tin(IV) oxide (SnO2). The organic semiconductors smooth out the bumpy surface of SnO2, preventing unintended electron-hole recombination. The development of the organic-inorganic bilayered interfaces also improves the electronic structure of SnO2, providing favorable optoelectronic properties. In addition, the hydrophobic organic semiconductor enhances the stability of the perovskite absorber layer. The optimized bilayer interfaces significantly enhance the power conversion efficiency of RPP-based photovoltaic devices.

Surface Defect Formation and Passivation in Formamidinium Lead Triiodide (FAPbI3) Perovskite Solar Cell Absorbers

S. M. Oner et al.

Summary: The surface termination and defect formation of formamidinium lead iodide perovskite materials have been investigated. It was found that FAI-termination exhibits the most stable surface, while PbI2-termination is also relatively stable. However, certain defects can create deep-level stable charge-traps, potentially limiting the optoelectronic performance. Additionally, benzene additive has been found to effectively passivate these deep defects.
