Preparation and properties of silicone rubber materials with foam/solid alternating multilayered structures

Wenhuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Silicone rubber materials with foam/solid alternating multilayered structures were successfully constructed by combining multilayered hot-pressing and supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) foaming. The introduction of the solid layer effectively improved the mechanical properties of the material, providing high supporting counterforce during compression.

Highly Sensitive Porous PDMS-Based Capacitive Pressure Sensors Fabricated on Fabric Platform for Wearable Applications

Simin Masihi et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel PDMS-based capacitive pressure sensor with optimized dielectric layer porosity was developed for wide-range pressure sensing applications in sports field. By adjusting curing temperature, HNO3/PDMS concentration, and PDMS ratio, the sensitivity of pressure sensors was improved, with higher porosity achieved at higher curing temperatures, HNO3 concentrations, and PDMS ratios. The pressure sensor array was successfully applied in a wearable fit cap for measuring and mapping pressures on a player's head while wearing a helmet, demonstrating its potential in sports applications.

Surfactant-Free Aqueous Fabrication of Macroporous Silicone Monoliths for Flexible Thermal Insulation

Gen Hayase

Summary: Hydrophobic silicone macroporous materials prepared in an aqueous solution by the sol-gel method have various applications such as separation media, heat insulators, and liquid nitrogen adsorbents. Flexible macroporous silicone monoliths were successfully obtained by copolymerizing organosilicon alkoxides in an aqueous acetic acid-urea solution, showing resilience to compression and bending as well as water repellency. These materials possess a low thermal conductivity and can be utilized for thermal insulation in diverse surface shapes and confined spaces under harsh conditions.
