Understanding the effect of materials, design criteria and operational parameters on the adsorption desalination performance - A review

Yannan Zhang et al.

Summary: Adsorption desalination is a promising technology for solving water scarcity issues, but it is still in the early laboratory research stage. This review summarizes the achievements in sorption materials, system configurations, and operation performances of adsorption desalination technology. Composite adsorbents have shown better performance, and advanced working cycles and strategies have been proposed and validated. Possible future directions include developing high-performance adsorbents with low desorption temperature, designing reactors with less transfer resistance, and validating real-scale prototypes under real operating conditions.
