Dual-emission samarium macrocycle as a lab-on-a-molecule enables high-throughput discrimination of anionic sulfonate surfactants

Yan Huang et al.

Summary: Efficiently discriminating similar anionic sulfonate surfactants remains a significant challenge, but recent advances in orthogonal detection have shown the great advantages of using principal component analysis (PCA) to construct a comprehensive statistical method. Proposed 'one-element-two-channel' protocol based on a dual-emission samarium macrocycle shows promising results in discriminating target analytes and mixtures in real water samples.

Combination of imine bond and samarium emitter enables turn-off fluorescence detection of hydrazine in vapor and water samples

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study presents a convenient and efficient fluorescence technique for selective detection and precise determination of biotoxic N2H4. A luminescent probe based on Sm(III) macrocycles is synthesized to achieve selective and ratiometric turn-off fluorescence sensing for N2H4, showing low detection limit and wide linear sensing range. The proposed smartphone-based analytical method provides satisfactory N2H4 detection results, shedding light on the development of optical probes and detection techniques for N2H4 and other hazardous chemicals.

Analysis of the Isotopic Purity of D2O with the Characteristic NIR-II Phosphorescence of Singlet Oxygen from a Photostable Polythiophene Photosensitizer

Yunhe Lang et al.

Summary: The study proposed using the 1275 nm emission of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) to analyze the isotopic purity of D2O, and employed laser excitation to intensify the emission signal for sensitive detection of H2O content in D2O. Through the selection of photosensitizers and validation with D2O samples, the method achieved a limit of detection of 0.1% for H2O in D2O and enabled real-time monitoring of D2O hygroscopicity. The results not only highlighted the importance of humidity control during D2O storage and related investigations, but also demonstrated the potential usefulness of NIR-II emission of singlet oxygen in future analytical detection.
