Adsorption mechanisms over ZrO2-modified Cu(111) surface for X (CH3OH, H2O and CO): A DFT plus U Study

Xincheng Tang et al.

Summary: The surface adsorption mechanisms of copper-based catalysts for hydrogen production from methanol were investigated using DFT calculations. It was found that ZrO2-modified copper surfaces have better catalytic activity and adsorption capacity, inhibiting carbon monoxide discharge and promoting hydrogen production reactions. The study also considered oxygen vacancies and revealed the beneficial effects of oxygen-defective surfaces on reactions like methane steam reforming for hydrogen production.

Rational design of zeolite Y supported oxalate and borohydride ligands functionalized Cu catalysts for CO2 conversion to specialty chemicals

Olumide Bolarinwa Ayodele

Summary: This study investigates the impact of oxalate and borohydride ligands functionalization on the properties and activity of zeolite Y-supported copper nanoparticles in CO2 hydrogenation. The functionalization resulted in differences in physicochemical properties and activity, with oxalate showing higher methanol yield and borohydride showing higher dimethyl ether yield. Additionally, the functionalization effectively minimized CO formation.

Nature of the Active Sites on Ni/CeO2 Catalysts for Methane Conversions

Pablo G. Lustemberg et al.

Summary: Research has shown that cationic Ni atoms in clusters at step edges on the CeO2(111) surface are the most active sites for methane conversion reactions, with their small size and high Ni chemical potential contributing to their activity. Density functional theory calculations have clarified the reasons behind this observation, highlighting the importance of the size and morphology of supported Ni nanoparticles, strong Ni-support bonding, and charge transfer at step edges for high catalytic activity, particularly in the activation barrier for C-H bond cleavage during CH4 dissociative adsorption. This knowledge is expected to inspire the development of more efficient catalysts for these reactions.
