Experimental Investigation on Underlying Mechanism of LLDPE Based Rotationally Molded BioComposites

P. L. Ramkumar et al.

Summary: Rotational molding is a polymer manufacturing technique used to produce hollow and seamless parts with complex geometries. Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is the most preferred material for this process. This study investigates the use of bio composites made from jute/LLDPE and sugar cane bagasse (SCB)/LLDPE in rotational molding, analyzing processability, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. The addition of fibers, such as SCB and jute, improves the roto moldability and mechanical properties of the end product, with 5% fiber content showing the most significant improvement.

A review of Type V composite pressure vessels and automated fibre placement based manufacturing

Summary: Hydrogen is considered a promising energy medium and is often stored in high-pressure composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs). The current state-of-the-art technology, Type V, relies on carbon fiber laminate for structural properties and gas leakage prevention. However, achieving functionality at high pressure poses engineering challenges. The traditional filament winding manufacturing process for COPVs has limitations in design space, but automated fiber placement (AFP) has the potential to overcome these limitations and optimize vessel manufacturing.

Danding Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a combination of crosslinker low-temperature blending and partial chemical crosslinking strategy is employed to enhance the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of LLDPE without sacrificing the melt fluidity. The structure-property relationships in the crosslinked specimens are analyzed based on various methods. The results show that our simple, low-cost and universal strategy not only contributes to a better dimensional stability and significantly improved mechanical properties, but also endow the samples with promising processability and thermal stability.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of cooling rate on the thermal, crystallization, mechanical, and barrier properties of rotational molding polyamide 11 (PA11). The results show that a slower cooling process leads to higher crystallinity and improved barrier properties. Additionally, as crystallinity increases, the tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, and flexural modulus increase, while the elongation at break decreases.

Direct joining of PP-Al5052 hybrid with high bonding strength by two-step anodization treatment and polymer modification

Mingyong Zhou et al.

Summary: The bonding performance of polymer-metal hybrid (PMH) structures was enhanced by pretreatment with two-step anodization and maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH). The formation of hierarchical nanopores and branched structures greatly improved the surface wettability. The bonding strength of PP-Al5052 sheet was significantly improved with oxalic acid solution as the electrolyte in the second anodization. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed the role of MAH groups in enhancing interfacial interactions and the negative effect of phosphate ions on chemical interactions at the interface.

Review of the surface treatment process for the adhesive matrix of composite materials

Jigao Liu et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the surface treatment technology of bonding matrix of composite materials, with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) as the research object. The research status at home and abroad is reviewed from the aspects of matrix characteristics, durability, and bonding and stripping effect before and after surface treatment. The influence mechanism of surface treatments on the bonding properties of CFRP is summarized, and the future research focus and direction are prospected. The results show that the bonding effect depends on the mechanical interlocking and adsorption/chemical bonding between the adhesive and CFRP surface. Different surface treatments can significantly improve the preparation quality of the CFRP surface and enhance the bonding ability between CFRP and the adhesive.
