The use of total diet study for determination of natural radionuclides in foods of a high background radiation area

Mychelle M. L. Rosa et al.

Summary: The activity concentrations of various radionuclides in 82 food samples from urban and rural areas of Pocos de Caldas, a High Background Radiation Area, were determined. K-40 was found in all types of food samples. The lifetime cancer risks were 1.6 x 10(-3) and 2.3 x 10(-3) for the urban and rural populations, respectively.

Dietary exposure of radionuclides and heavy metals in adult residents in a high background natural radiation area using duplicate diet method

Baolu Yang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively assessed the dietary exposure to radionuclides and heavy metals in the high background natural radiation area (HBNRA) in Yangjiang, China. The results showed that the intake of radionuclides was within acceptable range, but the intake of heavy metals posed a health risk to the residents.

Optimal methods for preparation, separation, and determination of radium isotopes in environmental and biological samples

Punam Thakur et al.

Summary: In recent years, radium has gained attention due to the rise of unconventional drilling technology, particularly in the United States, which has led to increased interest in radium isotopes such as Ra-224, Ra-226, and Ra-228. Accurate measurements of radium isotopes in environmental and biological samples are essential for assessing long-term risks associated with their presence in the environment. This article reviews various aspects of radium chemistry, including recent advancements in radiochemical separations methods and analytical techniques, as well as recent trends in radium determination.

Simultaneous determination of 210Pb and 210Po in seafood samples using liquid scintillation counting

Xiangyin Kong et al.

Summary: A fast and cost-efficient method for the simultaneous determination of Pb-210 and Po-210 in seafood samples was developed and validated, with similar recoveries for both isotopes. The proposed method has a minimum detectable activity suitable for measuring Pb-210 and Po-210 in seafood samples.
