Leading by bribing: evidence from China

Shaomin Li

Summary: This study examines a new type of state-sponsored corruption that involves a government bribing the rest of the world for influence. The findings show that this form of bribery is a threat to global stability, and recognizing it is the first step in curbing it. Reducing state-sponsored bribery by China would benefit both the world and China.
