Chemical profile colostrum, quality refrigerated and frozen milk of santa ines sheep

Joao Antonio Goncalves e Silva et al.

Summary: The chemical composition of Santa Ines sheep colostrum and milk was assessed, showing high protein and fat content in both. The milk can be stored for up to 240 hours without changes in quality, although frozen milk may see a reduction in fat content after 70 days. Refrigeration and freezing are viable preservation methods that add value to the milk of Santa Ines sheep. Further studies on other preservation methods are necessary for quality assurance.

First-milking colostrum mineral concentrations and yields: Comparison to second milking and associations with serum mineral concentrations, parity, and yield in multiparous Jersey cows

A. Valldecabres et al.

Summary: This observational study investigated the mineral concentrations and total yields of first-milking colostrum in multiparous Jersey cows. The study found associations between colostrum mineral concentrations and cow serum mineral concentrations, parity, and postpartum milking yield. Differences in mineral concentrations and yields between first and second-milking colostrum were observed. Parity was associated with variations in colostrum mineral concentrations and yields, with younger multiparous cows exhibiting higher concentrations and total yields.

Feeding Dairy Ewes with Fresh or Dehydrated Sulla (Sulla coronarium L.) Forage. 1. Effects on Feed Utilization, Milk Production, and Oxidative Status

Riccardo Gannuscio et al.

Summary: Sulla forage with condensed tannins has positive effects on animal productivity and antioxidant status. Dehydrated Sulla forage can be a good alternative to fresh forage. This research shows that pelleted dehydrated Sulla forage can produce similar effects as fresh forage and provides a good storage solution in periods of low availability.

Effect of dairy unit operations on immunoglobulins, colour, rheology and microbiological characteristics of goat milk

Kanchanpally Saipriya et al.

Summary: Different processing methods significantly affect the fat, protein, ash content, and pH of goat milk, with varying effects on immunoglobulins and lactoferrin. Heating and concentration reduce the pH of goat milk, while skimming has a lesser impact on immunoglobulins and lactoferrin.

Concentrations of toxic elements (As, Cd, Hg and Pb) in cow milk: A review of the recent scientific literature

Jose L. Domingo

Summary: This paper reviews recent studies on the concentrations of As, Cd, Hg, and Pb in cow milk from different countries and finds significant variations in metal levels depending on the country and specific areas of collection. Overall, human exposure to As, Cd, Hg, and Pb through frequent consumption of cow milk is not likely to pose significant health risks to consumers.

Comparative estimation of colostrum quality by Brix refractometry in bovine, caprine, and ovine colostrum

E. C. Kessler et al.

Summary: The study compared the quality estimation of colostrum in cows, goats, and sheep using an optical Brix refractometer. Despite distinct between-species variations in colostrum composition, Brix refractometry proved to be an acceptable tool for on-farm estimations of colostrum quality in goats and sheep.

Effects of the Inclusion of Different Levels of Dietary Sunflower Hulls on the Colostrum Compositions of Ewes

Mohsen M. Alobre et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of supplementing different levels of sunflower hulls to the complete feed of late-gestation pregnant ewes on the nutritive and fatty acids profile of colostrum. Results showed that inclusion of sunflower hulls at levels greater than 20% may have negative effects on some fatty acid parameters, while up to 20% can be used without negative effects on colostrum fat content and fatty acids profiles.

The grain mineral composition of barley, oat and wheat on soils with pH and soil phosphorus gradients

L. Jordan-Meille et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the effects of liming on the mineral concentrations in three main cereal crops, finding that pH has a significant impact on grain mineral concentrations, with factors including soil nutrient concentrations and P treatment. Different crops showed varied responses to pH, with differences in Cu and Zn concentrations mainly attributed to soil type.

Anna Antonella Spina et al.

Summary: This study evaluated MilkoScan FT-plus as a rapid tool for assessing colostrum quality by indirectly measuring immunoglobulin content through protein content measurement, focusing on bovine and ovine colostrum. The results showed good agreement between MilkoScan FT-plus and the reference method for immunoglobulin concentration measurement in colostrum.
