FWENet: a deep convolutional neural network for flood water body extraction based on SAR images

Jingming Wang et al.

Summary: As one of the most severe natural disasters in the world, floods cause significant economic losses and casualties every year. This study proposes a new model called FWENet for flood information extraction based on Sentinel-1 SAR images. The FWENet model achieves the highest accuracy compared to other methods in water body extraction.

Satellite imaging reveals increased proportion of population exposed to floods

B. Tellman et al.

Summary: Satellite imagery from 2000 to 2018 indicates that the proportion of global population exposed to floods is increasing, highlighting the importance of investing in flood adaptation strategies to reduce loss of life and livelihood. Changes in where and how floods occur, as well as the population exposed, are being influenced by urbanization, flood mitigation infrastructure, and settlements in floodplains. The high spatial and temporal resolution of satellite observations will enhance understanding of flood changes and adaptation methods.

DASNet: Dual Attentive Fully Convolutional Siamese Networks for Change Detection in High-Resolution Satellite Images

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: Change detection is a fundamental task in remote sensing image processing. While deep learning has provided new tools for this task, current methods lack resistance to pseudochange information. To address this issue, a new method called dual attentive fully convolutional Siamese networks is proposed, achieving significant improvements compared to baseline methods according to experimental results.
