High-Temperature Majorana Zero Modes

Alejandro Mercado et al.

Summary: We utilize analytical and numerical approaches to demonstrate the presence of unpaired Majorana zero modes in the cores of Abrikosov vortices at the interface between a three-dimensional topological insulator and a twisted bilayer of high-T-c cuprate superconductor. These structures show the potential to form a fully gapped topological superconductor, even at high temperatures, and may possess larger magnitude gaps depending on the interface quality.

Cooper instability and superconductivity of the Penrose lattice

Yu-Bo Liu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the SC on the Penrose lattice using an attractive Hubbard model and settles several fundamental issues of SC on the QC. The findings show the presence of Cooper instability and the occurrence of Cooper pairing between time-reversal states. Additionally, it demonstrates the real superconductivity in the pairing state on the QC and its verification through the Meissner effect. The study also reveals the universality of the SC properties on the Penrose lattice for all QCs.

Chiral SO(4) spin-valley density wave and degenerate topological superconductivity in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene

Chen Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, through simulation and calculation, the electron instabilities in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene under specific doping conditions were revealed. The interaction between the two symmetries of the system leads to a series of intriguing quantum states, and these results are consistent with experimental observations.

Hyperuniform electron distributions controlled by electron interactions in quasicrystals

Shiro Sakai et al.

Summary: We investigate the influence of electron-electron interactions on the charge distributions in the metallic state of quasicrystals. By introducing an extended Hubbard model on the Penrose lattice and numerically solving it within the Hartree-Fock approximation, we find that the Coulomb interaction between lattice sites, due to the different local geometries, leads to a nontrivial redistribution of charge. The resulting charge distribution patterns exhibit hyperuniformity, which can distinguish various inhomogeneous but ordered distributions. We also reveal that the intersite interaction significantly affects the hyperuniformity on the electron-rich side.

Correlation-Induced Insulating Topological Phases at Charge Neutrality in Twisted Bilayer Graphene

Yuan Da Liao et al.

Summary: In this study, unbiased quantum Monte Carlo simulations were used to solve an effective interacting lattice model for twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) at charge neutrality. Various correlated insulating phases were discovered, including a quantum valley Hall state with topological edge states, an intervalley-coherent insulator, and a valence bond solid. These charge-neutrality correlated insulating phases provide important reference states for understanding insulating states at integer fillings and the proximate superconducting states of TBG.

Tunable strongly coupled superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

Jeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Moire superlattices have become a platform for studying correlated physics and superconductivity with unprecedented tunability. This study on magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene reveals a better tunability of electronic structure and superconducting properties than magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, with implications for the understanding of strongly coupled superconductivity. The results suggest that the system can be electrically tuned close to the crossover to a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate, indicating the potential for revolutionizing applications of superconductivity.

Γ valley transition metal dichalcogenide moire bands

Mattia Angeli et al.

Summary: In this paper, a continuum theory of moire minibands in the valence bands of Gamma-valley homobilayers is developed, with benchmarking against large-scale ab initio electronic structure calculations. Due to the emergent D-6 symmetry, low-energy Gamma-valley moire holes are found to differ qualitatively from their K-valley counterparts, with the first three bands realizing different models.

Realization of nearly dispersionless bands with strong orbital anisotropy from destructive interference in twisted bilayer MoS2

Lede Xian et al.

Summary: The study reveals that twisted bilayer MoS2 can achieve a strongly asymmetric p(x)-p(y) Hubbard model with two almost entirely dispersionless bands due to destructive interference. The emergence of these dispersionless bands is similar to the flat bands in Lieb or Kagome lattices, and coexists with the general band flattening caused by moire interference.

Nematicity and competing orders in superconducting magic-angle graphene

Yuan Cao et al.

Summary: In magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, intertwined phases with broken rotational symmetry have been identified, showing strong thermodynamic anisotropy and appearing above the underdoped region of the superconducting dome. A reduction in critical temperature is observed when it intersects with the superconducting dome, with the superconducting state exhibiting anisotropic response to in-plane magnetic fields, suggesting nematic ordering plays a significant role in the low-temperature phases of magic-angle TBG.

Summary: Researchers revisited the c-axis experiment by fabricating Josephson junctions with atomic-level control in their interface structure. Results consistently support the scenario of a persistent s-wave order parameter in the junction, suggesting that the atomic details at the junction determine the Josephson tunneling process regardless of the twist angle.

Disorder-induced chiral and helical Majorana edge modes in a two-dimensional Ammann-Beenker quasicrystal

Chun-Bo Hua et al.

Summary: Recent research has focused on the disorder effects in topological phases in quasicrystalline systems. By numerically computing the effects of disorder on class D and DIII topological superconductor systems, the study found that the topologically protected edge modes remain robust against weak disorder in the quasicrystalline lattice. Additionally, the discovery of disorder-induced topologically nontrivial phases exhibiting different types of edge modes opens up new possibilities for research in quasicrystalline systems.

Quasiperiodic criticality and spin-triplet superconductivity in superconductor-antiferromagnet moire patterns

Maryam Khosravian et al.

Summary: Quasiperiodicity is a powerful tool to explore exotic phenomena and engineer unconventional superconductors, serving as a middle ground between ordered solids and disordered matter. Systems with quasiperiodic modulation exhibit a transition from localization to delocalization, with the emergence of a robust quasiperiodic critical point for arbitrary incommensurate potentials. Inclusion of residual electronic interactions leads to an enhanced spin-triplet superconducting state near the quasiperiodic critical point, showcasing the potential of quasiperiodicity in engineering robust superconducting states.
