Impact of Preoperative Opioid Use on Patient-Reported Outcomes after Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Propensity Matched Analysis

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to explore the effect of narcotic use in patients undergoing revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). The study found that patients actively taking opioids at the time of revision TKA reported significantly lower preoperative and postoperative outcome scores, and they were more likely to have longer hospital stays.

Physical activity, pain interference and comorbidities relate to PROMIS physical function in younger adults following total knee arthroplasty

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of preoperative physical and psychological health risk factors on physical function and satisfaction one year post-total knee arthroplasty in younger adults. The results showed that poorer preoperative physical activity level, higher pain interference, and greater comorbidities were associated with worse physical function scores post-surgery, while more preoperative comorbidities were related to lower satisfaction scores.
