The effects of extended feeding of florfenicol coated medicated diets on the safety, serum biomarkers and blood cells morphology of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.)

Avishek Bardhan et al.

Summary: This study assessed the safety of oral florfenicol (FFC) at therapeutic dose in Oreochromis niloticus juveniles, and found that the effects of FFC on fish were reversible.

Usage pattern of chemicals, biologicals and veterinary medicinal products in Indian aquaculture

Prasanna K. Patil et al.

Summary: The use of chemicals, biologicals, and veterinary medicinal products is essential for healthy and sustainable fish production. A nationwide survey revealed that farmers rely on various inputs such as disinfectants, nutritional supplements, and environmental modifiers to improve soil and water quality, enhance growth, and ensure biosecurity. The survey also indicated that education and farming experience significantly influence the usage pattern of aquaculture inputs.

Dysbiosis and Restoration Dynamics of the Gut Microbiome Following Therapeutic Exposure to Florfenicol in Snubnose Pompano (Trachinotus blochii) to Aid in Sustainable Aquaculture Production Strategies

T. G. Sumithra et al.

Summary: This study provides the first report on the impact of florfenicol (FFC) on the gut microbiome of snubnose pompano, highlighting the risks and restoration dynamics. The results show transient dysbiosis events and reductions in bacterial load and diversity. The gut microbiome fully recovers within 10-15 days of antibiotic withdrawal, indicating the need for proper management measures. The study also demonstrates the inhibitory potential of FFC against marine pathogens and ampicillin-resistant microbes, and identifies microbial signatures of stress in fish and potential probiotic microbes.

Histopathological aberrations and oxidative stress responses in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus as influenced by dietary florfenicol and its metabolites

Avishek Bardhan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary administration of florfenicol on kidney and liver tissues in Oreochromis niloticus juveniles. The results showed pathological changes in the kidney and liver, but the therapeutic dose of florfenicol was well tolerated by O. niloticus.

Biological Responses of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus as Influenced by Dietary Florfenicol

Avishek Bardhan et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of florfenicol (FFC) on Oreochromis niloticus juveniles were investigated. The results showed that FFC caused a reduction in feed intake, survival, and biomass, as well as abnormalities in hematological, erythrocytic, and serum biochemical indices. However, most of the measured parameters and histopathological changes recovered within 3 weeks after the suspension of FFC dosing, indicating that the therapeutic dose of FFC is reversible and safe for O. niloticus.

A global analysis on the systemic effects of antibiotics in cultured fish and their potential human health risk: a review

Samwel Mchele Limbu et al.

Summary: The use of antibiotics in aquaculture can improve fish health by killing pathogenic bacteria, but also causes side effects and potential risks to human health. Antibiotics can compromise fish immunity, leading to cellular damage, while also impacting fish growth and survival rates.

Mixture toxicity effects of chloramphenicol, thiamphenicol, florfenicol in Daphnia magna under different temperatures

Yuxuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The acute toxicities of chloramphenicol, thiamphenicol, florfenicol, and their mixtures on Daphnia magna vary under different temperatures, with toxicity significantly increasing at 25 degrees Celsius. The phenicol antibiotic mixtures generally exhibit a dual synergism-antagonism effect, and the Combination Index equation appears to be more suitable for predicting their toxicity values compared to other models. Overall, phenicol antibiotic mixtures with temperature variation may pose greater hazards and risks to aquatic organisms and the environment.

Florfenicol causes excessive lipid peroxidation and apoptosis induced renal injury in broilers

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that FFC has certain nephrotoxicity to broilers, with dose-dependent and reversible effects on kidney function. The main manifestations include disorderly kidney tissue structure and atrophy of glomeruli. Additionally, FFC can lead to significant changes in certain indicators in serum and kidney, and promote renal cell apoptosis by regulating the expression of related factors.

An Integrated biomarker approach for explaining the potency of exogenous glucose on transportation induced stress in Labeo rohita fingerlings

Abhilipsa Biswal et al.

Summary: This study found that 0.2% exogenous glucose as a water additive exhibited the lowest stress response in L. rohita fingerlings during simulated transportation, suggesting it may help mitigate transportation-induced stress. Upregulation of liver HSP70 mRNA expression was identified as an important marker of stress response.

Acute toxicity of organophosphate pesticide profenofos, pyrethroid pesticide. cyhalothrin and biopesticide azadirachtin and their sublethal effects on growth and oxidative stress enzymes in benthic oligochaete worm, Tubifex tubifex

Arnab Chatterjee et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the acute toxicity of profenofos, lambda cyhalothrin, and azadirachtin on Tubifex tubifex, as well as their sublethal effects on growth rate and oxidative stress biomarkers. The pesticides caused behavioral abnormalities, decreased growth rate, and altered oxidative stress enzymes in the worms. Profenofos, lambda cyhalothrin, and azadirachtin induced significant effects on survivability, behavior, growth rate, and oxidative stress enzymes in T. tubifex.
