Loss to patient-reported outcome measure follow-up after hip arthroplasty and knee arthroplasty PATIENT SATISFACTION, ASSOCIATIONS WITH NON-RESPONSE, AND MAXIMIZING RETURNS

L. A. Ross et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine satisfaction rates after hip and knee arthroplasty in patients who did not respond to postoperative patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). It was found that the majority of initial non-responders were ultimately contactable, and satisfaction rates were not inferior in patients who did not initially respond to PROMs. Younger age, higher BMI, and poorer preoperative PROMs were associated with non-response to hip arthroplasty.

Patellar cartilage loss does not affect early outcomes of total knee arthroplasty performed without patella resurfacing

George Holland et al.

Summary: In patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty, comparing those with and without patellar cartilage loss who did not undergo patellar resurfacing, there was no significant difference in Oxford Knee Score, anterior knee pain, reoperation, or Kujala scores at 1 year and 2-4 years. Resurfacing for this indication was not cost-effective.

Patella resurfacing during total knee arthroplasty is cost-effective and has lower re-operation rates compared to non-resurfacing

Thomas Parsons et al.

Summary: The decision to resurface the patella during total knee arthroplasty may be influenced by various factors, but ultimately both resurfacing and non-resurfacing have similar patient-reported outcomes. Resurfacing the patella is cost-effective and associated with a lower rate of re-operation compared to non-resurfacing.
