Can green credit reduce the emissions of pollutants?

Chi-Wei Su et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of green credit (GC) on air quality in China using the bootstrap sub-sample rolling-window Granger causality test. The results show that the effects of GC on the environment vary during its infancy and mature stages. As the GC system improves, the positive effects on air quality become evident. Additionally, the study emphasizes the feedback effect of air quality on GC policy. These findings are important for policymakers to identify flaws in the GC system and develop well-designed policies for sustainable economic development.

Can green finance promote green innovation? The moderating effect of environmental regulation

Yuxue Yang et al.

Summary: This study empirically examines the impact of green finance on green innovation using fixed effect models with data from 30 provinces in China during 2008-2019. The results show that green finance has a significantly positive effect on green innovation in all regions of China, with a stronger effect in the western and central regions compared to the eastern region. Additionally, the study verifies the effect of environmental regulations on green innovation and finds that the effect is greater in the eastern region than in the western and central regions. Moreover, the effect of green finance in promoting green innovation is enhanced in all regions with intense environmental regulations.

Coordinated development between green finance and environmental performance in China: The spatial-temporal difference and driving factors

Hongying Zhang et al.

Summary: The coordination relationship and balance between green finance and environmental performance are crucial for ensuring sustainable development in the context of economic transition. This paper examines the coordinated development of green finance and environmental performance across Chinese provinces, using index systems and statistical models. The results show an overall increase in the green finance index, concentrated in the eastern regions, and a rise in the number of provinces with efficient environmental performance. The coordination of green finance and environmental performance improved over time, with spatial variations. Industrial structure, economic development level, and environmental regulations were found to positively impact coordination, while population density had an inhibiting effect.

Aoxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of the Green Credit Policy (GCP) on carbon emissions intensity (CEI) in heavily polluting industries (HPIs). The results show that the implementation of GCP has led to a decrease in CEI in HPIs, with resource allocation effect and green innovation effect being the main channels through which GCP reduces CEI. Additionally, the effectiveness of GCP varies depending on the ownership structure, total factor productivity, and capital dependence of the HPIs.

Research on the impact of green finance on carbon emissions: evidence from China

Jiancheng Bai et al.

Summary: This study finds through empirical analysis that green finance plays a promoting role in reducing carbon emissions in various provinces and cities in China. Specifically, the impact of green finance on carbon emission mitigation has a threshold effect, with a greater impact in the eastern region, an inverted U shape in the central region, and a weaker driving force in the western region. Therefore, improving the quality of green finance and enhancing the level of green finance empowered by science and technology are key to achieving sustainable green development.

Summary: In the context of globalization, enhancing carbon productivity is increasingly important. This study analyzes the effects of command-and-control and market-based environmental regulations on carbon productivity using data from 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2018. The study finds that command-and-control environmental regulation has a negative impact on carbon productivity, while market-based environmental regulation has a positive impact. The negative effects of command-and-control regulations have decreased over time, while the positive effects of market-based regulations have increased. Resource-intensive and carbon-intensive regions are more sensitive to the negative effects of command-and-control regulations.
