Programmed Cell Death of Endothelial Cells in Myocardial Infarction and Its Potential Therapeutic Strategy

Mingyue Wu et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction and heart failure, are a major global health problem, causing a significant number of deaths worldwide. Recent research has shown that different types of cell death, including apoptosis and necroptosis, are closely related to cardiovascular diseases. This review summarizes the roles and mechanisms of endothelial cell death in myocardial infarction and suggests that inhibiting endothelial cell death could be a beneficial approach for treating myocardial infarction.

Mitochondrial Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase Protects From Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Improving Complex I Composition and Function

Niloofar Ale-Agha et al.

Summary: By generating new mouse models with either mitochondrial TERT or nuclear TERT, it was discovered that mitochondrial TERT plays a critical role in protecting the heart, improving complex I activity, reducing infarct size, and promoting vascularization. Mitochondrial TERT has positive effects on the functions of cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells, suggesting therapeutic potential for cardiac protection.

The Redox Modulating Sonlicromanol Active Metabolite KH176m and the Antioxidant MPG Protect Against Short-Duration Cardiac Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Yang Xiao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the protection of the antioxidant KH176m against acute cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury is critically dependent on the duration of ischemia, showing that prolonged ischemia diminishes its capacity to reduce cardiac oxidative stress.

GSDMD-Mediated Cardiomyocyte Pyroptosis Promotes Myocardial I/R Injury

Huairui Shi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant role of GSDMD-mediated cardiomyocyte pyroptosis in myocardial I/R injury, and suggests that the caspase-11/GSDMD pathway may be essential to this process. Furthermore, GSDMD inhibition significantly reduces cardiomyocyte pyroptosis and I/R-induced myocardial injury.
