Improved coronary calcium detection and quantification with low-dose full field-of-view photon-counting CT: a phantom study

Summary: This study compared the performance of spectral photon-counting CT (SPCCT) and conventional CT in the detection and quantification of coronary artery calcium (CAC). The results showed that SPCCT outperformed CT in CAC detection and preserved detection even at reduced radiation dose. Furthermore, SPCCT allowed for improved estimation of the physical volume of CAC.

First In-Human Results of Computed Tomography Angiography for Coronary Stent Assessment With a Spectral Photon Counting Computed Tomography

Synergistic oxygen vacancy-rich CuO/visible light activation of peroxymonosulfate for degradation of rhodamine B: fast catalyst synthesis and degradation mechanism

Summary: This work presents the synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-SC) with oxygen vacancies using a fast sodium citrate assisted precipitation method. The as-synthesized CuO-SC nanoparticles exhibit a regular fusiform shape, high surface area, wide light harvesting window, fast charge transport, and high carrier concentration. The CuO-SC/peroxymonosulfate (PMS)/visible light (Vis) system shows higher catalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) compared to CuO nano powder without sodium citrate. The system also demonstrates high catalytic stability and wide pH range. The degradation mechanism involves holes, superoxide radicals, sulfate radicals, hydroxyl radicals, and singlet oxygen.

Coronary calcium scoring potential of large field-of-view spectral photon-counting CT: a phantom study

Assessment of the Morphological, Optical, and Photoluminescence Properties of HfO2 Nanoparticles Synthesized by a Sol-Gel Method Assisted by Microwave Irradiation

Summary: In this work, HfO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using a nonaqueous sol-gel method assisted by microwave heating, and directly extracted and stabilized in water without any surfactant modification. The controlled size, shape, crystallinity, and stability in water make these nanoparticles promising for optoelectronic and biomedical applications. Optical properties investigation showed that the nanoparticles have high UV absorption and transparency at visible wavelengths, and exhibit photoluminescence with multiple emission bands.

Summary: This study estimated the burden and risk factors for peripheral artery disease (PAD) from 1990 to 2019. The global prevalence and incidence of PAD significantly increased during this period. High fasting plasma glucose was found to be the primary risk factor for PAD deaths worldwide. However, there were no significant changes in the global death or years of life lost rates. Therefore, more interventions targeting modifiable risk factors should be implemented in regions with high or increasing burden.
