Management of chronic anal fissure: results of a national survey among gastrointestinal surgeons in the Netherlands

Danielle A. van Reijn-Baggen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the management of chronic anal fissure (CAF) among gastrointestinal surgeons in the Netherlands. The results showed that most surgeons followed guideline recommendations, starting with conservative measures and then proceeding to surgical treatment. However, there was inconsistency in assessing pelvic floor complaints and routine examination of the pelvic floor muscles. Awareness of pelvic floor dysfunctions is important in referring patients for pelvic floor physical therapy.
