Ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene/hydrogel-based liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator driven self-powered MXene-based sensor system for marine environmental monitoring

Dongyue Wang et al.

Summary: A wave-driven liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) was developed to construct a self-powered sensing system for marine environmental monitoring. The TENG harvested wave energy and powered a SO2 gas sensor with excellent response. The temperature and humidity error correction of the sensor was achieved through data integration and processing.

Visible-Light-Activated Response Originating from Carrier-Mobility Modulation of NO2 Gas Sensors Based on MoS2 Monolayers

Hiroshi Tabata et al.

Summary: Some gas sensors exhibit enhanced sensitivity and response rates under light illumination, with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) thin layers showing effective photoactivated gas responses to visible light. The photoactivated response is mainly attributed to the photovoltaic effect, with the sensor response depending on the Langmuir adsorption isotherm of NO2 molecules on the MoS2 layer. The fast response/recovery of the photoactivated response is linked to carrier mobility modulation of MoS2 due to dipole scattering of adsorbed NO2 molecules.

Multifunctional poly(vinyl alcohol)/Ag nanofibers-based triboelectric nanogenerator for self-powered MXene/tungsten oxide nanohybrid NO2 gas sensor

Dongyue Wang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a PVA/Ag nanofibers-based TENG was developed for human respiration, movement, and harmful gas monitoring, achieving high voltage and power density outputs. By integrating a voltage regulator module, stable voltage output from the wind-driven TENG was achieved, providing a feasible solution for different wind conditions. A self-powered sensor system was developed by integrating TENGs and a gas sensor, offering a sustainable detection platform for tracking the source of harmful gases.

A new insight into the structural modulation of graphene oxide upon chemical reduction probed by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction

Neakanshika Chadha et al.

Summary: Recently, Raman spectroscopy has been utilized as a powerful tool for quality assessment of graphene analogues by identifying the intensity ratio of Raman active D-band and G-band (I-D/I-G ratio) as a key parameter for quantifying defects. However, during the chemical reduction process of graphitic oxide (GrO) to reduced GrO (RGrO), the increased I-D/I-G ratio is often mistakenly interpreted as defect augmentation, when in fact the in-plane size of sp(2) domains actually increases. Additionally, the observed increase in I-D/I-G ratio is due to an increase in across-plane defects, formed via along-the-layer slicing of graphitic domains, as supported by XRD data.

Perovskite-structured LaCoO3 modified ZnO gas sensor and investigation on its gas sensing mechanism by first principle

Wenbo Qin et al.

Summary: LaCoO3 nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method and modified on the surface of ZnO to prepare LCO/ZnO nanometer flake materials with improved gas-sensitive response. The LCO/ZnO sensor showed significantly enhanced response to ethanol gas, shorter response time and recovery time at an optimal operating temperature of 320 degrees C. Analysis of the sensitization mechanism revealed that the improved sensing performance was attributed to the increase of surface adsorbed oxygen content and the strong catalytic oxidation activity of LCO.

Boosting the acetone sensing of SnS nanoflakes by spin Mn substitution: a novel adsorption-desorption perspective†

Yinan Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, two-dimensional ultrathin tin monosulfide nanoflakes were doped with Mn atoms to enhance their surface adsorption activity for gas-sensing applications. The Mn-substituted SnS showed hierarchical nanoflower structures and exhibited significantly improved response and detection limit for acetone gas at room temperature. The enhanced performance was attributed to physico-chemical synchronous adsorption of monolayer acetone molecules and strong orbital hybridization between the adsorbed acetone and Mn atom.
