Enhanced adsorption and visible-light photocatalytic degradation of toluene by CQDs/UiO-66 MOG with hierarchical pores

Jiajun Yu et al.

Summary: The development of photocatalytic materials with both promising adsorption capacity and high visible-light activity is important for efficient and stable degradation of toluene. In this study, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) decorated UiO-66 metal-organic-frameworks gel (MOG) composites with hierarchical pore structures were prepared. The introduction of CQDs improved light utilization and promoted the separation of photo-induced electrons and holes, leading to the generation of active free radicals. The composite demonstrated high toluene adsorption capacity and enhanced degradation efficiency compared to the pristine MOG. In-situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) analyses revealed the degradation pathways and mineralization of toluene. The results highlight the potential of CQDs decoration for efficient mineralization of toluene in low-concentration flows.

Tetracycline removal from aqueous solution using zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) with different pore size and topology: Adsorption isotherm, kinetic and mechanism studies

Jing Xia et al.

Summary: Three zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks, UiO-66, NU-1000, and MOF-525, demonstrated excellent adsorption performance for tetracycline removal. The adsorption kinetics were best described by the pseudo-second-order model, with equilibrium rapidly reached within 40 minutes on UiO-66 and NU-1000, and within 120 minutes on MOF-525. The Sips model provided the best fit for the adsorption isotherms, with high maximum Sips adsorption capacities reported for all three MOFs. The pi-pi interaction was found to play a crucial role in the adsorption process.
