Tailorable low temperature silica-gelatin biomaterials for drug delivery

Summary: Sol-gel silica-based hybrids can be tailored for tissue regeneration by adjusting their properties. Factors such as water content, TEOS:GPTMS volume ratio, and gelatin:sol volume ratio during the sol-gel preparation process influence the material's performance. Higher water content reduces degradation rate and mechanical properties, while decreasing water uptake. Increasing the amount of cross-linker in the TEOS:GPTMS volume ratio slightly decreases water uptake and degradation rate, and improves mechanical properties. Lastly, the gelatin:sol volume ratio affects water uptake, degradation rate, and mechanical properties.
